Remote Top Down?

I read in the manual of my wife's '07 MCc that we should be able to use the keyless remote to open the "sunroof" and put the top down. I have tried both keys with no luck. I can use the keys in the door to close the top and windows after leaving the car.
Is this a metter of "reprogramming" the keys? Or is it something to do with the cars "memory settings"? Is there some way to do it other than taking it to the dealer? Thanks.

Greg

Hold the unlock button and hold your breathe until your face turns blue and vuola, windows down and sunroof opens! That easy

Location when using the key seems to be a issue. Try drivers side towards back of car point remote towards steering wheel. That worked best for my Mini S and same for my Z4.

Make sure you press it twice first (to unlock car) and then press and hold. . . but it is finicky and, frankly, I'm usually to the car before I've even finished opening the sunroof.

On my '08 Sidewalk, I need to press 3 times(hold it on the 3rd time) on my unlock keyfob to open the "sunroof", then another 3 times(hold again on 3rd) to put the top down, it's an awesome feature

This DOES require the feature to be enabled by programming - some cars come like this from the dealer by default, others don't. Mine wasn't programmed to do this initially, but I checked it before I accepted delivery and had them enable it.

On my car, I have the single press to unlock enabled also. So my sequence is:
1) Press and release once to unlock all doors
2) Press and hold - after 3-5 seconds the sunroof will begin to open and windows will go down. Continue holding until windows are all the way down.
3) Release and press and hold again. After 3-5 seconds, roof will start to unlatch and retract. Hold until this is complete.

Range is GREATLY improved if you touch the metal part of the key to your lips (no lie). I can do it from all the way across our parking lot at the office using this method. Top is down before I get to the car.

I think you just like kissing your key.

Our '05 MCSC started behaving "strangely" when opening the top via the key. Here's what we have to do:
Click once: unlock driver door
Click again: unlock passenger door
Hold button: open roof/rear windows to "sunroof" position
Hold button: open roof ALMOST all the way to open position.
release button and red warning light flashes on the roof button inside car
Hold button again: roof opens the remaining 1cm and flashing light stops

Very strange; that need to hold down the button a third time started happening about 6 months ago.

Nope. You CAN close everything with the key in the driver's door lock, though.

Thanks you all for your help!

Thanks for all the suggestions and help. The sequence that works is on push to unlock, another push to finish unlock, then push and hold to open sunroof and windows, then push and hold again to drop the top.
Cheers,
Greg

Maybe this is what happen to my surprise earlier today.

Wind was in the garage. The keys were in my pocket. I had just changed the oil. I put the unused oil in the trunk, closed it and walked outside to do something, I came back in a couple of minutes and noticed the sunroof was open and the windows were half way down. I thought this was strange but blew it off for the moment and went on with what I was doing. Maybe the wife had come outside and did it... but why would she do that,I thought. I went back outside, when I came back in the top was three quarters of the way down and all windows were down. Now my interest was raised. I got in the car and saw a red light on the top control buttons was blinking. Ignoring the flash, I finished lowering the top and then raised it back up. Weird...

Did I actually hit this combination of buttons by accident with the keys in my pocket ... twice in five minutes?

It's also good to use this feature on hot toasty days prior to getting in
