Carless! Help

Ok so my husband and I usually have 2 cars. 2 Honda Civics. He traded one of them in for his BMW 1 series and we're doing the Euro Delivery so we won't get that car til November or so.

Now we're left with the other Civic which we share. Here's my problem:

- I want to get a new MINI (I've fallen in love with em) and trade in my 07 Civic EX. However, then we'll be carless. We could wait til his car comes in in November, but we're getting a really good trade in value right now and are afraid we won't get that same rate in November!

Any advice? I'm sure there are others who've gone through this.

I'm very new to this forum..its my very first post! Ive been reading it for about a month or so and Im in love with it.

Thanks!

There are a few options here:

1). You should be able to find a MINI on your local dealer's lot right now that has most of what you want in a MINI. Sell you Civic via private party and buy what's on the lot.

2). Same as above, but expand your search nationally via a dealer locate. Odds are they might have something closer to your specifications. Buy it and sell your Civic via private party.

3). If you're dead set on getting a custom MINI (aren't we all?), then ask the dealer how quickly your car can get into production. Odds are they can convert one of their pending spec orders into your MINI. Assuming they have one available soon, it might take 6-8 weeks for it to arrive. Sell you Civic private party then. It should be early August.

4). If you local dealer can't get you into the queue soon enough, then call around to other dealers to see if they can get you in earlier. There are a lot dealers that cater to out-of-towners looking to get an earlier builder. Sell you Civic when your car comes in, fly to your dealer, and break-in your new Mini on a road trip.

The only issue you're going to have is the rising popularity of the MINI. Sales are booming, so production slots are getting filled quickly. I wouldn't be too concerned about you Civic though. Considering it's reputation for reliablitiy and fuel economy, it will still be in high demand even in November when the 09's come out (especially since any changes will be very minor).

Hopes this helps.

thanks!

thanks,

what we ended up doing was keeping our honda civic and putting in the order for our car. what the dealership was giving wasnt nearly enough. so we are going to sell it ourselves.

if anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area wants a 2007 Honda Civic EX with 7000 miles on it....it has a sunroof and a navigation system that is embedded (came with the car)..please let me know. We are looking for $18,000 OBO.

I placed my order yesterday. Got an awesome new MINI..am week 28 and I cannot wait til it gets here!

According to Kelley Blue Book your ask of $18k for a private sale is very, very reasonable if the car is in excellent condition. With gas prices the way they are I would think you would have not trouble at all selling it.

Actually, I love it when people volunteer to take all the depreciation in a car out of their own pockets. Depending on what the initial sticker price was, I would think you would have no trouble selling to a private party. In my town, these small Hondas are snapped up immediately by the Asian and Indian population, many before they've even passed their driving exam.
