Odd behavior

Ok, yesterday my wife drove my 05 MCc for a change. She came home, parked the car and came inside. 5mins later one of our neighbors knocks on the door and tells us the parking lights on the cabrio were on. I went and checked, and they were on but only half (the driver side)... just on, not blinking or anything. I got in and tuned the car on, and the right turning signal was on, and the passenger lights were blinking (as normal). I turned it off, and voila, the lights magically were all off.

So, what's going on? Seems that when the car was turned off with the turn signal still on, the lights on the OTHER side stay on. Totally weird. Anyone have any ideas? Can any cabrio owners reproduce this odd behavior? I'm going to do an oil change shortly so I'll try and see if I can duplicate the behavior myself.

I think you activated the turn signal on feature. I'm not even sure what it's exact feature name is called. What happens is this...You park your car on a street for instance, you hit the directional signal on the side you want to light up(usually the side towards the street) & the lights on that side will stay on to warn motorists that your car is there.

Hope this helps But if it's not that then it may be a faulty Body Control Module. My MINI started doing weird electrical things & the BCM had to be replaced.

It is a European thing, were roads can be very narrow. It is called "Standing lamps". It is in the manual under Parking lamps. Page 51 in my 03 Cooper manual.

Wow, fast response, thanks to the both of you!

Leave it up to me not to read the manual, lol. Never knew about this, actually that is a cool feature.

Thanks again for the help.
