Just did 1st Gear intro ... now for some pre-sales advice

Working on a deal for a '07 MCSC R52 w/ 14,500 mi., Premium/Cold pkgs, Tuscan leather ... $21K a good price?

Drove the car and it had a fair amount of squeaks and rattles (mostly coming from the rear seat area), little bit of flex on uneven pavement, but it otherwise seemed pretty tight (especially over an angled speed bump). Sound normal for a Cabrio w/ 14.5K on the odo?

I've learned about the wear marks on the top -- I'll be looking for those next time I'm down there. I think I can even faintly see some in the dealer pics.

The car has been on their lot for 4-5 months. It has been moved/driven in that time, but I don't know how often. Should I be worried or look for anything in particular? Any concern about the supercharger becoming unlubricated after a period of sitting and then being started up?

One of the exhaust tips is more discolored and has more carbon buildup than the other -- anything strange about that?

How is the dash-mounted cup holder mounted? This one looks pretty shoddy, about ready to fall off ... I didn't want to tug at it too hard during the test drive, but it looks like the previous owner was fond of 32oz Slushies or something.

Anything else from your collective experience that I should look out for on this year/model?

Thanks!!

It seems a little high priced. I don't know where you are, but here is the best deal I found by me:

and a JCW also:

That's not an unfair price, really. The dealer wouldn't budge on the price of the 2007 Cooper S Cabrio that I purchased but they gave me an incredible price on trade-in...way too much really. So maybe there's some room to negotiate.

The stock cup holder sucks...it was the first thing that had to go. I replaced mine with one from MiniFini.com and I've been 100% satisfied.

Good luck,
- John

That is a great deal, although that is a 2005 (albeit with only 4K!) so that probably accounts for some of the price difference. And the one I'm looking at is more heavily optioned (including w/ the Chrono package because, as un-MINI as it makes me, I want my speedo in front of me). Not that the Chrono pkg adds much value or $$$, but it limits my choices significantly.

FWIW ~ since you are new to MINIs ~ you can set the digital display in the Tach housing to show MPH (that is what I've been doing for 6+ years)
