replaced both latches this weekend....Top will not retract fully
After receiving new latches from the stealer this week, I finally got around to replace both of them today on my 05 S. I'm just about to button things up, and decided to test operation of the top.....it will retract into the sunroof position, both latches will release and right when the top should begin to open...it stops...the infamous red led will then flash. I have checked the rear shelf and it is seated properly. I'm totally stumped at this point, and prefer not to take to the dealer and get raped.
could the previous problem of a broken latch cause some sort of code to be thrown and cause the top to remain inop?
thanks in advance

This happened to me as well yesterday. with the top fully closed, make sure you roll all the windows down and back up (1 cycle) before opening the top again. If you played with the brass relief screw in the boot, make sure its set back in the proper position, also release the conv top latches in the boot, reseat the shelf, and give the latches a strong push down pack into position.
After I did all that the top opened all the way properly.

I spoke with the dealer a few weeks ago and they confirmed the top is purely mechanical... so the code theory is out the window.
I was monkeying around with the top yesterday and thought to try to do a "reset" by disconnecting the battery for a cpl of minutes. The problem now is the top was in the sunroof position and now wont close via the motor unless I manually start to crank it closed and then the motor will then the motor will function and close the roof. It appears that a trip to the dealer is in order....UUUUHHHHGGGGGG!!!!
