Isn't there a manual procedure to close the top? My 2010 has a step by step procedure in the owners manual. Not the perfect solution but would certainly make it drivable in cold or wet conditions.

Yes it does, but it is only for the sun roof part. I have not found a way to do it from the fully open position. Thanks though

I checked the 2005 MINI convertable owners manual on line in the MINI owners lounge and there is a full manual procedure to raise the top. The last part with the crank is for the sunroof part but there are steps prior to that that require some panel removal and screw turning and two people but there IS a manual procedure for this for a 2005. Check page 37

This may or may not help you but.....A guy was telling me about covertible top problems in OTHER cars he owned, all involving the hydraulic motor that eventually craps out. What he did was to disconnect the motor and make the the top a manual, and it worked perfectly. He said he did this on 2 cars (he was a big convertible top nut.) Why not do it on the MINI? It sounds like a perfectly feasible solution. I have an 05 convertible, and thankfully, I haven't had any problems with it.....yet.

I think the best option is to figure out if there is power going to the top motor. If there is your problem is most likely the motor. If there isn't then you have a problem along the way and will need to trace it out. If there is a pinch along the line you need to find it :/

I would do the same thing with the rear window defrost. Put the defrost on and check the lead at the top of the window. Tracing is your friend =).
