R52 cooper s door locks issues

i'm having sporadic issue with my door locks. i first noticed the other day when i was trying to get out, and my driver side door wouldnt open by pulling on the inside door handle. normally, it will unlock the lock and open the door, but it wouldnt open. i had to unlock the door with the switch, then open the door. then yesterday, the passenger side started having issues. the passenger side wont open or unlock, with either pulling on the inside door handle, or toggle switch to disengage the lock. i find it odd that both doors will have an issue at the same time. is there a reset like resetting the power windows and convertible top? i tried holding up and holding down the lock switch on the switch panel without any results. i'm going to try removing the negative battery terminal. anyone with any ideas?

Check the plug connection at the back of the toggle bank first. I know some guys had the socket plug work its way out, causing sporadic working.

General toggle switch bank, your might have more or less options but mostly the same , plugs on the back side of it.

If that does not work, check the battery voltage. When the battery get weak certain functions tend to be spotty at best.

Then look at the locks themselves.

The mechanical electric door lock sets into the door at the rear. I have seen one side fail then the other in the past, mostly not at the same time.

While you at it you can inspect the cables to the lock and inside handle. One for each door.

Thanks and hope that helps.

Thanks ECS, you guys are always so helpful! i havent gotten inside the door yet to find the issue, but i'm thinking its a cable issue. when i pull the inside door handle on the passenger side, i can see the lock move, but it doesnt go up, and the door wont open. the driver side is hit and miss. sometimes it works, sometime it wont. just a matter of time before i wont be able to get in, or out of my car!

You are welcome,

With what you described now sounds like the lock is jammed. When the cable is snapped , you will feel not tension and the nothing near the lock will move. When you get the door panel off and can inspect use the diagram and part for reference and then you will know more whats going on. Also inspect those cables to make sure they are not chaffed or on there way out.

Thanks
