Is my MINI 1st gen or 2nd?
Hi everyone, I recently bought a used MINI Cooper S Convertible, and I want to know is it the 1st gen (supercharged) or 2nd gen (turbocharged)? it's build date is 10/06 and I would like to know if it has AUX or not? because in the stereo there is CD, CDC, Radio and AUX but I cant find it.

If its 2006 it has a supercharger and in Gen 1.
If it is 2010 it has a turbo and is Gen 2.
The Aux plug in is a separate option on Gen 1 cars. The dealer would have installed it inside the glove box. An owner may have installed it just about anywhere, I put mine in the panel behind the lower cupholders. You can buy an Aux plug for about $40 and install it yourself if about 1/2 hour, it just plugs into the back of the stereo.
If you have a little gauge that tells you how long the roof has been open than you have a gen 2.
If it is 2010 it has a turbo and is Gen 2.

The cabrio stayed gen1 for an extra 2 years...
So you could have a 2008 gen1 cabriolet....
The aux jack is where ever the other owner installed it (if they ever got one)...
Simply look around....
Folks sometimes installed them in places more "convient" to them...sometimes running the wire and plug to a plate by the e-brake handle, more often UNDER the center stack radio, or even in the doentube.....
Every mini is different.....that is what makes then unique....and owners made them more so by installing things to meet THEIR needs....

One tip....
The if I recall right, the compact disc changed had to be unplugged from the back of the radio to make an aux work....so if the changed is installed, 99% sure no aux.
I run XM/sirrirus satalite radio in my car....but think it would be uninstalled if I wanted the aux if I remember right.....

Gen 1 Convertible ( R52 ) is what you have: here is what the aux input cable has. It comes with install instructions for the glove box install. We have it shown in the second most popular locations under the toggle bank. If you already have it the "aux" will come up if you press through the mode button. Since it sounds like you have it in the glove box, should look like this. Might be unplugged between the glove box and the back of the radio deck. The Aux input is a main face plate with the 3.5mm output with a wire harness connected to the back of the radio deck. Check and see what you have.

Wow.. this was soooo helpful! Thanks so much for the effort! However I DO have the AUX on the stereo player, but there isn't a plug under the switches (As the pictures above) And unfortunately my cd changer doesn't work, it reads the cds, you can change the tracks but it won't make a sound.
Sounds like the CD changer was UNPLUGGED to add the aux....(99% sure this is required when pluging in the aux kit).
Look around for a plug.....
The wiring harness for the CD changer on the back of the radio is unplugged to plug in the aux kit....that is why so many CD changers are sold cheap....a modern mp3 player/phone simply holds more....

You are welcome, did not know you have the CD changer. My guess is that you had the Aux input in the glove box is unplug-ed ( but you say it comes up in the display ? ) due to the CD changer someone put in which now sounds like it is not working or vice versa . Maybe there is a different radio for the Saudi region that MINI made that shows them all?
The aux input in the glove box looks the same under the toggle bank mount, just mounted to the side of the glove-box to plug in the 3.5mm cable of your choice and then to your MP# player or IPod / IPhone.
I would check the back of the radio deck and see what is really connected then follow the lines, that will determine whats connected and working.
Yea its pretty rare car in Saudi Arabia.
Thanks and good luck.

Ohhh.. Well That explains it.. found a couple of wires in the trunk but didn't know what they were for.. I guess that was for the cd changer, but luckily the single CD player still works! Thanks for all the help guys, guess i'm gonna take it to a mechanic tomorrow anyway because the AC isn't working and it makes a loud weird noise when I switch it off.. bad luck for a first car eh..
