Top Goes Up After Only After Restart
Hi all. Couldn't find an answer for this one...
My 2005 convertible top has generally been working fine — a bit slower over the years; an occasional "I don't know what state I'm in" computer glitch wherein closing the sunroof or windows or something seemed to do the trick immediately — but pretty OK.
Now, however, I've discovered a repeatable oddity that I'm not very happy about:
Once opened, it will only close if I shut the power off and restart (either full or just electrical). The sunroof portion works just fine, every time.
Other symptoms that might be related:
While opening, the motor (hydraulics? not sure what the sound is) generally quit when the top is about 3/4 of the way down, then the top itself kind of "coasts" into place. If I press the button to lower the roof, the motor engages again for about 2 seconds (I can do this as many times as I want). The first re-engagement lowers the cage arms fully (it they're not already down) but continually pushing the button doesn't do anything and has no effect on being able to raise the top again w/out restarting.
I ran some more tests this morning and actually had one instance where the motor was engaged during the entire lowering process, and the roof did, indeed, go back up without restarting! But just once; then it was back to the new normal.
Only other symptom I've seen is that the drivers front window is slower than the passengers... but still fully functions.
I've tried reseating the cargo shelf, re-latching the latch levers, resetting the window sync... nothing has made any difference.
Your expert opinions would be greatly appreciated!
