Mini startup sound

Hi everyone,

Just wondering, I have a '07 R52 and I was wondering why all other Minis (older and newer) make a typical "mini" welcome sound when you put the key in the ignition, but mine doesn't... Any thoughts? Of course, like every other owner I think it is "because she's special" hahahahaa.... Anyways, just asking, anyone have an idea?

Are you talking about the low temperature warning bong that will sound when the engine is first started in icy temperatures?

I don't think it has anything to do with temperature, I live in the Caribbean, it's always hot here. It's more like a "welcome" sound

Yeah, OK, that rules out the ice warning!

Though I do wonder if the ECU sends the binger into 'psycho' mode if the temp drops to 3C on Caribbean-spec cars on the grounds the driver really needs warning about this dangerous situation....

Do you mean the sound happens when simply inserting the key without turning it? If after turning the key, it might be some type of warning (any lights on the gauges?).

No MINI I've ever driven (my own R52, or loaners while being serviced) have made a sound when the key is inserted. I'd say that no sound is normal. When you say "all other Mini's", what others do you hear it in besides your friend's?

Is it a one tone bing, or a bing ...bing...bing.. when the door is open. Its normal. Once you touch the key into the ignition.
