OEM SIRIUS Radio on H/K 06 Cabrio HELP!!!
I recently became an owner of an 06 MCSCa that needs Siruis radio. I read and read on the site about how people are getting it done. So, I bought all the OEM parts, bought an aftermarket antenna and took it a place. After two days there, they assured me it can't be done. Last night, I looked for all the posts I was sure I read for an example, details, pictures of how everyone is doing it only to find aftermarket parts being installed and a serious lack of installation details.
Can anyone, anyone at all show me a link, or supply directions, hopefully step by step to have this OEM stuff installed. I'm going crazy without my Siruis radio.
Sorry for those that noticed I put this in the wrong forum the first time.

I haven't yet seen any one write up the instructions for installing this in a convertible. However, the OEM instructions for the coupe can be found at Motoringfile. You might be able to use part of the the instructions that I have created for the XM install in a convertible to get the antenna mounted. You may have a problem if the Sirius Antenna cable is not long enough. Also, you didn't mention if you have NAV. If you do, there are many posts that indicate that the Sirius Antenna is not compatible with the NAV antenna.
If you get it to work, consider posting instructions with photos for the next Mini owner who wants to do this.
Let us know how it goes.
Edit - The instructions for the OEM Sirius install mention extension cables for the antenna and CD Controls that are available. You may need one or more of these.

Grabbed the instructions for the XM...with all the great photos. The guys couldn't do it still. They said the problem isn't the antenna (probably cause I quoted what it said all over NAM) but something to do with the area in the boot and the harness situation. They don't want to cut back there. I came in with the smaller antenna. The guys I tried to get it done through (and the dealership) swear it can't be done.

If the problem isn't the antenna, then there really shouldn't be a problem. If the Sirius Receiver doesn't fit behind the boot trim in the Convertible, then have them mount it on the outside of the trim. I'm sure a decent install shop can come up with something that will work. If the antenna is the problem, then maybe the answer is a two wire to one converter and a new style Sirius Antenna installed next to the AM/FM antenna on the upper windshield trim.
Don't know where you're located, but if you're anywhere near Southern California, I would be happy to work on this with you. Just PM me.
If nothing pans out, consider XM as we know that will work.

I should not have a tool anywhere near my car, that I have repeatedly proven. I gave them the XM instructions, but they said that was not helpful. They swore the issue was in where to put the receiver and the harness. I would think it's plug and play with the harness, guess not. I really want it to look good in the end, not just flipping around back there. They said, and I quote, "bring in detailed instructions and we will take another look at it. Otherwise, it can't be done in a manner that you will like."
Since the dealership won't do it either. They guy at the shop I took it to called his buddy at the dealership and still couldn't figure it out. I love Sirius, have it in my other 3 vehicles and miss it in my Baby.
Anyone, Bueller, Bueller?

I have the OEM Sirius in my 2005 Cabrio and there are two issue to deal with.
1. The OEM receiver uses a two plug antenna and sirius antenna uses the new single plug. A Trek one-to-two plug converter is needed. I got mine off of Amazon. Now the sub issue is 'where to place the antenna' - I mounted mine as close to the front windshield as possible on the dashboard center. People don't even notice it because of the size. I have not had an issue with drop-outs. Another sub issue is with the one-to-two converter has plastic covers which need to be trimmed a bit to fit.
2. There is no place to mount the OEM receiver - I am either going to mount the receiver to the side in the boot area or attached to the back of the rear seats - via velcro which is a similar solution I had in the truck of my BMW cabrio. If you don't plan on loading up your truck or use one of the folding seats this is a solution.
I am happy with have the semi-OEM solution...will be even better once I finally mount the sirius receiver. I had XM for years but switched when I became a Mini owner and went through many different PnP units which didn't work for me. Again - much happier now. Check out this link from Mini2 it is a similar solution except for the antenna placement

Nav, XM, iPod
I ordered my 06 MSCS with Nav, XM, and iPod adapter. My dealer had no problem installing the XM and iPod cable with the Nav system. I have no clue what he did, and everything works perfectly. But if you're still having problems I'm sure they'd be glad to talk to you. Call the dealer at the number below and ask for Thomas in service. He may even be willing to fax you the diagram they used.

I just installed my OEM Sirius receiver. You will need the Terk antenna adapter available from Crutchfield and an after market antenna. Like ddBRG stated above I too put my antenna in the center of the front dash as close to the window as possible. my second option was to put it in the center of the cowl infront of the windshield but that was not needed. The signal is plenty strong on the dash. I then ran the wire around the dash down to the door weather stripping and into the boot where the arm for the top drops into the boot. (no tools necessary).
As for the receiver if you can get the plug to cover the cd-plug on the OEM receiver don't buy the install kit from the dealer. The only piece that I used was the plug. I positioned the receiver under the boot cover on the passenger side. Removal required a torx driver and a phillips head driver. I connected the cables and the antenna to the receiver and then velcroed the receiver to the top of the wheel housing, between the the roll bar brace and the fender. Then I trimmed the foam insert to fit the receiver. I cable tied the wires and excess antenna wire. As for the terk adapter it is hanging downward from the reciever towards the bottom of the boot. You may notice an indentation that will fit this piece quite well. I adhered the adapter and the antenna with moulding tape. Then reinstalled the foam insert. and the boot cover and you should be good to go.
I will post pictures in the next day or so, as time allows. I am out enjoying the tunes.

Gosh, what great timing! I just got done talking to my local dealer (okay, vent coming....dislike the service reps...listening skills need much improvement). He was telling me the reason he can't install my Sirius was the antenna...I replied, put in on the dash, I happen to have done that in my Suburban and love it. They gawked, came up with some sad little reason and went off to the parts department for a while. When he came back he said there is an update that will allow the install on the convertible coming soon. What soon means in Mini world, who knows. Meanwhile, I am becoming fond of mp3 cds for the road. Anyway, I will take these notes and have it installed asap!!! I'm so excited. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Silver baby...I feel your pain on this issue. I just picked up my new MCS Convertible this week and was shocked to find that there was no dealer installed Sirius option available. I must tell you that I think it's just a bit on the dishonest side for Mini to advertise that the convertible is "pre-wired" for Sirius.
I'm happy to hear that there is an oem "solution" on its way, but I'll tell you this - my mother owns a BMW 525 and has been waiting for a bluetooth adapter for her mobile phone (a Razr)...she has been told for the last YEAR (actually more) that an adapter is on the way...but she STILL doesn't have one!
By the way, are you guys aware that Sirius is offering a LIFETIME subscription for $500 through January '07? The only catch is that the lifetime subscription can be transferred from one radio unit to another radio unit 3 times. And each transfer costs $75.00. Still, I think it's a pretty good deal!

thanks machineguncharley.
I have Sirius in all my other cars and miss it when in my Mini which is most of the time. It got so bad, I was honestly out looking to see what I might like to own instead of my Mini. (still love the Mini, nothing compared). Meanwhile, got the Sirius just about installed in there now thanks to the pictures above. I just need to order the Terk Sirius Splitter and get the ondash antenna. Why order afterwards...well, we were reading these directions and decided to walk them out to the garage and just take a look....next thing you know, everything is in the right place, but we hadn't taken the time to get those two little items. Two dozen calls to local stereo shops later, we couldn't find the items locally, so they are being ordered online. Should be here in a day or two, and then, it's just happy, happy motoring.

I need to revive this thread for a quick question. I had Sirius in dash radio installed in my '06 with HK a couple of weeks ago. There's a "Scroll On" feature that's totally useless and I was wondering if anybody else has encountered the same problem. To me, the Scroll On feature should show the station, artist, and song title in a scrolling manner, but this isn't so. To be able to see the three items, you have to touch the "info" button repeatedly three times to get this information. My husband's after market Sirius scrolls this information continuously without having to touch anything. I took the car back to the dealer (Sirius wouldn't talk to me...they told me it was a dealer/warranty issue) and today I was told the radio is performing according to the owners manual. That's bull cr@p to me and a definite flaw within the Sirius guidelines! Is anybody else as upset as I am after paying mega-bucks for something that doesn't function as well as a $50 model?????

I hate to break it to you, but it's functioning properly. The OEM SIRIUS receiver only has one line of your MINI head unit to work with, and it is designed in a very specific way.
If you don't do anything, the head unit will only show you the station name - that's it. I believe this is an intentional design on BMW/MINIs part - the idea is to provide less distractions, because you should be focusing on driving. Obviously it's screwed up logic, because then you have to spend time hunting for the INFO button when you do want more information.
If you hit the INFO button once, it shows you the artist name. If you hit it twice, it shows you the track name.
Holding the INFO button in for 3 seconds to enable the "SCROLL ON" feature does have a purpose though. If you don't enable it, you only ever see one line of the artist name and one line of the track name. If it is enabled, then (after you hit INFO to get to it), it will scroll through the whole name, one screen (i.e. one line) at a time.
This is how it is. The OEM receiver is designed to give you a very clean, simple interface - no wires, nothing to be stolen, no mess... but limited to the basics in terms of functionality. Personally, I like it that way, but if you want the fancy aftermarket screen and options, you'll need to buy one and install it (with wires and the theft issue!).
