R52 No More Blind Spot!

No More Blind Spot!
It's been raining every night here lately so I've been forced to keep the top up. It's downright maddening as my average has dropped to about 95% with the top down. Only 5% more and I have violated my contract!
Anyway, you cabrio folks know that the visibility on the MINI is pretty poor when the top is up. Changing lanes and backing out of parking spaces can be difficult when you need to see things on the passenger side or behind you at ground level. But today, I fixed that.
I installed a Multivex mirror on the passenger side and not only is my blind spot gone but I can see objects at ground level that are directly behind the car.
The mirror is cut to the same size and shape as the factory mirror and the install is a simple peel and stick. It distorts cars that are on the outside edge of the mirror but it knocks out the entire blind spot. Most useful $33 I have spent on my MINI so far. Check it out.

They sell the mirrors at a slight discount if you buy them as a set.

I have them on both passenger and driver sides. They are absolutely wonderful and have eliminated blind spots.
I'm planning on getting them for my other cars. I have a 15 year old who starts driving in 2 months and having the multivex mirrors will make me less nervous about her getting behind the wheel.

Same here...
I've got the Multivex on the passenger side, worth every penny. Tried some of the small round convex spot-type stick on mirrors, they worked but not as well as the Multivex. Haven't found a need for the driver's side, and when backing into a parking space I like the stock mirror for judging distance. But for eliminating that killer right-hand blind spot around the C-pillar, the Multivex is the best solution.

I really don't have any trouble changing lanes using my factory mirrors. As long as you have them adjusted properly it's really no big deal to compensate for the convertible blindspots.
Backing out of a parking spot is the only problem I ever have but frankly with all the ginormous SUV's parked everywhere it's hard to back out of a parking space in most any auto

So I just got them yesterday and I have a question - does anyone else have heated mirrors? If so the instructions say to run a bead of silicone around the gap between to new Multivex and the original mirror (I suppose to keep the heat in and facilitate the heating of the Multivex). But how can this be done? There is no way that I can access the gap with the mirror caps.
Suggestions or just blow it off?

I use the Multivex only on the passenger side. I have no visibility problems on the drivers side, and having a flat mirror gives better distance perception.
It's true that the factory mirrors are adequate if adjusted properly. However, the Multivex is an enhancement that does makes driving the convertible easier and increases safety. I solved the problem of backing out with the OEM rear view camera. Now it doesn't matter if I have SUV's parked on both sides. Awesome for parallel parking the convertible into tight spaces (which I do often). I'm sold on it and would want a rear camera for any car if it was available as an option.
If you want to do a really good job, the original mirror simply snaps off the actuator and you can apply the caulking off the car. Rotate the mirror to point maximum inward position, reach in with fingers and pull off. However I think the gap is not bad to access even on the car. If you have a new tube of caulking, cut the tip off to a narrow opening, then point the mirror down and side to side, and finish off smoothing it down with a wet finger like when caulking the bathtub.

So you put the passenger mirror on using the peel-and-stick and then ran silicone around the edge? How does that look (photo)? I have the cold weather package so does that mean I have heated mirrors? I rarely use the heated seats in Tampa except when the nights get cool and I have the top down. Then the heated seats are great.

I've got a hardtop but wasn't entirely happy with my rearward visibility.
2 peel and stick 180 mirrors on the side views and two baby mirrors adjusted to see slightly behind my perfifferal. If its not in fornt of me its in a mirror; total cost $7. The two stickys were 94 cents a piece at walmart. They've held up to FL heat and heated mirrors.
