R55 Who'd buy a Clubman based Pickup?
#27
I've had 2 VW pickups in the past and put many 100's of thousands of miles on them, the first a diesel and the second with a gas engine. They were the most useful vehicles I've ever owned. No, they would not haul a boat or tow anything heavy, but I drove them everyday in every kind of weather and they always drove well and got good mileage. I think there's still a market for smaller fuel efficient pickups.........

Mine actually had the canvas canopy for the rear to convert it to a van. Looked pretty cool and definitely increased the load capacity. Don't think I have any photos though.

I think it could be a real hit in the US. I did a similar (and much cruder) exercise in January though for a more off road version. Your on-road only version could surpass normal Clubman performance if it saved some weight in the conversion. Though a targa-top/convertible would probably sell better and there's plenty of space to store the top!

You can always steal
one of the REDBULL minis. They've been hacked to take that ugly can on the back, but really it's the pickup with coolers in the bed! Now that's a function I could sign up to!
I'd like one. We used to have a Ford Exploder, and when that was retired for the MDX, we lost a thrasher for moving really dirty stuff. I don't need to move 4x8 sheets of plywood, but some dirty car parts and the like.......
Anyway, if you look at the original Mini, there was a pick-up, the Moke, small business vans and on and on. Pretty much everything that could have been made out of a Mini has been done, so go for it MINI! Maybe a pick up wouldn't be a huge seller in Nebraska (Just guessing, nothing agianst Neb...), but I bet it would sell pretty well. Heck, if there were a shell, I bet every house cleaing service in SF would get them! East to park!

Yes for the MINI Pickup
I would buy a MINI Pickup if for no other reason than to help friends move. After I loaded a dorm size refrigerator in the back I would say ok my truck is full, now the rest of you load your own trucks. Of course my pickup would have to be AWD, Turbo, and lowered so I could get the rest of my beer in it.

A MINI pick-up is the only 2nd MINI I would consider. And that coming from a MINI owner who has vowed to always own a MINI.
But if MINI is going to build a pick-up, I do hope it's soon, 'cause I got to tell'ya, I don't understand why Chevy has'nt done it already with their HHR. They are offering a panel truck version for 08.
The HHR would make for an oustanding little pick-up. It could probably even be offererd in a regular and a extended cab version. Plus the wheel base is already long enough in it's present version and the truck "theme" is already there. It would also be a more practical/usable little pickup than a MINI.
A HHR pick-up would sell like hot-cakes!!! Just an honest opion!
