Who'd buy a Clubman based Pickup?

How many of you would be interested in a Clubman based Pickup?

Other mock-ups that I've seen use either the R50 or R53 as a base and I didn't personally like the look. I think that the Clubman (not necessarily the S) lines and proportions lend themselves very well to a pickup. What do you think?

No Way!

That is quite ugly IMHO. I can understand a Clubman not a pickup. C'Mon.

If I decided I needed a pickup again, and that was an option, you bet I'd be interested. For many, a FWD pick-up might be all wrong, but I could live with it. I'd like to see it with a long box bed.

I wouldn't buy one, I'm not a pickup kind of guy. I do think it's pretty darn cool. Wonder who makes a wee little gun rack for the back window?

That actually looks better than I thought it would but I am with Crashton on this one - I'm not a pickup truck kind of guy. I'm probably in for a Clubman though.

THIS... is a clubman. Notice the square front?

This is NOT a clubman. Notice the round front?

If it had a square front, it'd be a clubman estate

I just roll my eyes and wonder what's next... the MINI SUV followed by the MINI 4 door sedan and the MINI Moke with body by Jeep?

It's a MINI. It's already 2 feet longer than the original, so why the heck they wanna make it any longer? I'm not bashing the MINI. I've owned one, and I'll probably own another one - but jeez...if they're going to use names from the past ... like the clubman... at least make it ugly like a clubbie!

Heh, you are quite right about the name finagling. Guess I should have used the title "Who'd buy a MINI Clubman based Pickup?" I read a discussion somewhere about why legally MINI can't use the names Estate, Countryman, or Traveller ... something about someone else having the rights to those names. It kinda sucks since MINI is attempting to use the Minis heritage, but screwing it up. Like naming a son after Great Aunt Bertha instead of Great Uncle Joe.

The proportions on this one seem relatively close to the proportions on my Mini Pickup, but just stretched in all directions. I personally think the pickup would look a bit better if it had a nose less rounded and more square like on a true Clubman. If MINI comes up with a pickup design, it's gonna have a very limited market I think, especially here in the States where even Toyota and Nissan are moving to full-sized trucks. In that sense, I don't think that BMW would sport the funds for such a small market. Although, if they did I might be tempted to get one.

What if it came with a V8?

I like it.

I definately like it, actually I like it alot! Guess I may be outnumbered, but I saw an Orange colored classic MINI pick-up at Turkys Towing in Charleston SC a couple of summers ago and I fell in love with it, so I'm now partial to a pick-up version of the new Clubman. I believe there would be more than just few buyers. Well, see eh? Cheers.

FYI, there is a historical precedent. I'm ignorant on what model lines these were

Would still be a silly idea for the new MINI.

This was my pickup. I miss it terribly :( . I believe the pickup line was labelled under British Leyland (the model was named Mini95), along with all the other "industrial" vehicles like the panel van.

Yes there is a historical president. That being said BMW/MINI is about making money not repeating history. I don't believe they'd sell enough of those to recoup their investment. I like it, but it just won't happen.

I already have a pickup, a clubman based pickup would be redundant and too small for the things I use a truck for anyway

Reminds me.....

This kinda reminds me of the Subaru Brat. Remember those strange little seats in the back? That was such an ugly vehicle. That said, I really would consider buying a MINI pickup. I like it, I really do.

If it had a camper shell that could hold a 25 foot extention ladder on the top I could use it for work ( painting contractor ).The small Toyota truck in the 80's worked for me .In the late 70's I used a VW Rabbit hatch back for a while ,everything fit in with the rear seat down and ladders on racks , but to much paint fumes .It would be nice to get away from the 10 MPG my Dodge gets .

I think the larger question would cover it: Who would buy a pick-up truck? Unless you are the rare one who ahuls an ATV, bike, etc. Yet, the majority of non-commercial pick-ups I see on the road look as if their beds have seen no more of a load than a cooler. I have no idea why someone would want a truck ride, truck mileage, truck rattles, no trunk, room for 2 (and maybe 2 more legless people) and a huge expanse of sheet steel hopping over bumps like a long jumper, unless they do actually haul something big. For most who own a pick-up truck, they could put a MINI pick-up to just as good use. So, why not?
