October birth, November Delivery
My BRG Mini Cooper Clubman S came off the line on October 10 and I took Delivery on November 6, not bad seeing that I originally ordered the Clubman then changed my mind to the S, very glad I did. I've always wanted a Mini, especallly after touring the factory in Oxford a few years ago and my roots are in Middlesex, as evident by the Union Jack. Love the look and love the feel, can't wait until mile 1001.

I've wanted a little British sports car for most of my life. I've loved minis since 7th grade, when my family spent a year in Oxford (my dad did a teaching exchange). I've wanted my own new mini since they were introduced to America.
Five years ago my wife, fed up with my constant whinging, finally said I would have her blessing for my dream car when I turned 40. I think she thought that milepost was many ages away.
I guess time flies when you're married to a guy like me.
I haunted the online design-your-own-mini website for much of last summer, planning out my perfect car. I spec'd it out and contacted NW Mini in August. They told me it would be months and months before I could even order mine, let alone get it. The MA told me last month that he would be able to place my order in early December and that I would take delivery in February or March. Crestfallen, wanting my dream car yesterday, I was resigned to my fate.
I have lurked here on NAM every day since early September. I dream about minis. I pretend I'm driving one every day, and I think I know every one of them within a five-mile radius.
On Friday, my wife went away to Portland for the night and was coming home tonight on the train. Or so she said. She talked about train ticket prices Thursday night, and left the Amtrack webpage up on my laptop.
She took a detour from Portland. At approximately 5:48pm tonight I heard a jaunty beep from below the TV room. I looked down and saw my wonderful wife grinning up at me from behind the wheel of my dream car. She (and the MA) pulled off the best surprise ever!
I'll attach a photo of her picking up the best 40th BDay gift I can image. Now, if you'll excuse me, I think she needs a neckrub.

I think your wife deserves one too . That is such an INCREDIBLE story, CONGRATULATIONS! I know that we had spoken about your long wait and I can't say how happy I am for you! I love the BRG and the roof rails. You must consider yourself so lucky for so many reasons . Happy Motoring and thanks for sharing such a thoughtful story, made my day.

Ha! No sisters, I'm afraid. My wife is truly one of a kind and I barely deserve her.
We've been having a great time with the car. Has anyone taken "Road Scholar" as a car name yet? Being born in Oxford and all, it seems a natural fit. My new car is quite erudite.
Here we all are up in Oregon wine country, and also a shot of the interior, in case anyone is more interested in my car than in my wife's siblings
