You know Mini NA has too many things they are telling people. My SA told me today he talked to them and they had no new info on the rack? I called and the person I spoke to didn't even know they had an issue. Oh well hopefully minifini or some other company will have a fix sooner and we wont need mini.

Well...my MINI is about to arrive.

I will eventually get a roof rack when this stuff is sorted out...but you are right, MBX5. The worst part of the MINI seems to be their internal communications and in some cases their dealer network.

My sales manager has been great....hope the car is too when it arrives.

MiniDoMore was supposed to have the hitch connection ready this month for the Clubman. I haven't heard anything more from them on release date. That might be a good alternative if it becomes available.

Was it over on MINI2 that someone said theirs had a screw come loose - this is in reference to the issue of "it coming loose"... I'm losing track of what I read where.

Good news about the retrofit, and thank you taskmaxter for taking the initiative to call.

Yeah, you're right. Over on mini2 on post #168 in a huge R55 Roof Rack thread someone states about their rack:

"last month a tensioning bolt sheared on the rear rack"

Not sure if this is the same issue that the dealer is referencing though.

Thanks, understood...it may not be the issue that your SA referred to, but what's sort of odd is that your SA did not mention the leaks that some have had - with dealer installation. Oh who the heck knows - we just know we want it to work properly 100% of the time.

I do have a very good sense of humor, but I also have a responsibility to respond to posts that are reported by members. The image is very old, and has been posted here on NAM for years, so the joke is old, and had no relevance to the topic.

I suggest you read the announcement at the top of every forum page, then decide how you are going to proceed.

I just submitted 2 emails to Thule and Yakima and actually directed them to this thread. Per this thread, since the OEM rack is having problems this should incent Thule or Yakima to come out with a rack system for us.
I am placing an order this week for my Clubman

Thanks,

Geoff

Thule claims to already have one...I believe if you scroll back you'll see my posts about it. From what most of us think - including people that already have the MINI roof rack installed on their Clubman - no one believes that the rack that Thule claims will work will...because it is basically not geared for the "dune line" roof of the Clubman. I've explained this to the Thule customer service fellow, but he just goes by what he's told by his "fit specialist". I still have the multiple emails that we exchanged about this. I've edited out my name and email address to protect the innocent.

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond. Although your fit specialist says that this will work on a Clubman, I am hesitant because I don't think it will hold that well and am afraid it will injure the paint. At this point, I am going to wait and see what MINI comes out with as a fix to the roof rack it has put on hold.

Many thanks for your help, Frédéric - I appreciate your professionalism.

Best regards,

"Otra"

Good day,

After checking the information, please note I was confirmed the same from my fit specialist. The fit you have will work on a Clubman. Please note.

Trailer hitch for the Clubman

Mini Do More here!! The hold up on our roll out of the hitch has been getting our hands on another Clubman. The dealer we work with has been unable to free one up for us to get our hands on in a timeline that works for us. As you've probably read, traffic at the dealers and hence sales for MINI is way up! I need a volunteer to allow us to do some more test fitting and will give a full package to that person for free and install it. We are in the Akron Ohio area. Please PM if you are nearby, can help out, and want a free hitch set up! Thanks

Brent, that's good to hear...but this is the roof rack thread. You should post your info on this one: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ighlight=Hitch I know there are a bunch of people out there who're looking for what you're planning on offering.

I too do not see how the Thule kit that is designated for the Clubman will work. But I just got off the phone with my local bike shop and they are willing to order the parts needed and allow me to test fit the parts to the car.

If they do not work i will not have to pay for them and if they do work i will buy them.

Either way I will take photos of the parts and how it does or does not fit to the car.

They told me to expect the parts within a week.

Good for you - and yes, please do post your review. I hope for everyone's sake it is a good fit. If I recall correctly it may not hold as much weight as the MINI one...and/or the MINI one that is going to be reissued, but I could be misremembering...it all starts to run together in one big roof rack thread in my brain at times.

Here are the details i was able to find on the Thule site and confirmed by my local bike shop

400XT Aero Foot - This page has links to installation instructions.
http://www.thuleracks.com/product.as...d=53&sku=400XT
+
LB50 Load Bars
http://www.thuleracks.com/product.as...id=53&sku=LB50
or

400XTR Aero Foot - This track again has links to installation instructions.
http://www.thuleracks.com/product.as...=72&sku=400XTR
+
RB47 Load Bars
ttp://www.thuleracks.com/product.asp?dept_id=72&sku=RB47

And with either set of those

Fit Kit 2145 - this page has link to installation instructions.
http://www.thuleracks.com/product.as...id=53&sku=2145

Both the bike shop and i think the way this fits together is the 400XT or 400XTR will sit on the flat portion of the roof and the 2145 Fit Kit has a clamp bar that reaches down to the hole behind the rain gutter that take the OEM mount slot as a holding place.

If this is the case and we should know by the end of next week. I called all the bike shops with in a 50 mile radius of my home an none of them had the 2145 fit kit in stock. This is the crucial part to the system. I have looked at the 400XT and there is only one way that the foot of it can mount an that flat to the top of the roof.

Edit: for got to mention that the max load is 110 LBS or 50KG which includes the weight of the rack system. I believe that this is very close to the max weight of the OEM version.

schatzy62: Thanks for the detail. The story that has been mentioned earlier is that it apparently does not engage the OE slots, or that somehow it bears down on the rain gutter, which unlike a 1955 Ford, are not made of rolled steel. When you get the bits, if they fit, please post up a thread of the install with details as to the attachment points. I know that I'll appreciate it hugely!

MINI's rack can carry 175 pounds.

All I can say is read through all of this thread and if you're in the mood for more read: http://www.mini2.com/forum/mini-club...k-clubman.html

I hope this Thule rack will work for you, I really do.

I have the 2145 fit kit sitting on my desk in front of me. I've held it up to the roof, and cannot see any possability of it working on the Clubman. To be fair, I haven't actually tried it with the feet and load bar yet, as I'm going to borrow them from a friend and try to fit them to the car. But it sure looks to me as if the rubber pads would wind up on the outside of the dune line, almost vertical, with the clamps under the drip rail pulling it down. The only way this could possibly work is for the feet to use the load bar as a fulcrum. Unless I'm missing something, it might actually clamp and stay there, but I cannot believe that it would be very secure or have much in the way of load capacity.
