R55 Did Anyone Tilt Your Windshield?
#3
Hey There, I have all my side and rear glass tinted, I have been told by several tinters( one whom I have known for twenty years) that you do not tint the sun roof. There is a chance that it will shatter due to its natural tint. About the windshield, you might want to check if its legal, its damm hard to pull tint off the widshield, I would vote against it. Whatever you choose, good luck,

Didn't do mine. Be sure to check your local laws on it. Not sure if it effects the front window but I get some rainbow effects when I have my polarized sunglasses on none with regular glasses.

In my state (NH) one can't tint the front below the top 6-8" nor can you have the front sides tinted at all. Massachusetts is a little more liberal in this regard. However, if you get that proverbial note from your doctor and have them sign a form which you send in to the State, you can get a medical excuse for window tinting. It had better be UV protection if you do. And you'll need that official form (doctor + state) in your car for your local State Inspection officer to give you an OK every year.
I guess the long & short of what I'm saying is...you might be able to get around any restrictive tinting laws if you have any sun damage to your facial skin. Got any freckles?

From my sunroof tinting research: You can tint factory sunroofs and higher quality aftermarket ones. There were some shattering issues years ago if you had a lower quality aftermarket sunroof that used cheap quality glass without a UV coating. They would accumulate heat between the layers of glass, expand unevenly and break. Factory sunroof glass will be fine. I have 5% tint on mine and love it! I've got Texas legal 30% on the sides and back of my '06 MCS and love it every time I climb in the car on a hot summer day.
I think that we can tint the top 6" of the windshield, but it looks very cheap tuner-ish, if you ask me... I left it as the factory delivered it.
PS: The reason some states have no-tint laws is supposedly to protect police officers when they pull people over. If the tint was too dark on the car, they couldn't see someone in the back of the car pointing a gun at them. When I got a speeding ticket a few years ago, I rolled down all the windows and opened the sunroof (not raining). It gives the LEO a better view into the car and makes him/her more comfortable on the stop. They have pretty crappy jobs anyway... why make it any harder on them? :D

I have 5% limo on all the windows now as 25% was to light for my taste in the hot FL Sun. I have a 50% film on the front window. 35% is to dark for me personally at night and might be asking for a ticket. 50% tint is hard to find, not every tint shop has it. Once you tint a front window and realize the difference you'll never own a car again without it done. My .02's
Oh yeah my sunroof is done in 15% as well. Should have done 5% there also. maybe some day I'l have another layer added.

Double 5% all around.
windshield is 15%, with a HUGE 5% strip on top of the already 15% tinted windshield.
i love it. ill never not tint my windshield again.
the 2nd pic (of my windshield) is 5%. i had it tinted with 5% but took it off. i might put it back though. my explorer has a 5% windshield. i like it. its really dark though lol.
