And the name change is a good idea, too!

Man we are 5 pages deep on this thread , talk about beating a dead horse 10 times over

The only thing I have to complain about is the poor quality of the OEM steakers. My 10 year old Passat had better sound quality than my new Mini. I'll have to post on the Audio thread, as I want to hear what upgrades people have done.

We have the S clubman with auto and get 28-30 in the city. What is wrong with yours? Heavy right foot?

I will agree about the air cond. IT SUCKS! I have to put mine on max to cool the car. They need some serious work in this department.

28-30? It's rated at 26 by Mini. All due respect, no one gets 30 MPG with an S in the city unless they are driving like a grandma downhill with the wind to their back and a manual - no way. Not possible.

I'm just still trying to figure out what "city" driving means to most of you or to the EPA for that matter ... ... and I am not joking.

To ME "city" is a dense place like NYC, Chicago, London, Paris where there is a light or Stop sign at every 100 feet.

Then there is the other type of city ... the strip mall suburban type, where you can drive 2-3 miles even without stopping.

In my type of "city" there is no way you will do more than 23mpg's in an S ... the other type ... its possible.

I'd have to agree with you, but then I am also a native New Yorker.

City driving to me is stop and go traffic like LA, NY - anywhere you go station to station, stoplights, traffic, etc. You know, a real metropolitan area. Highway is highway. I reviewed the thread again - people claiming to get 30+ city with this car are on acid or they can't do math or they are just overstating things. No need - 23 is A-OK by me in the city for what this car givs you - it's a respectable number.

I don't think they exagerrate ... but I do feel their "definition" of city is different than mine or yours.

The location in everyone's profile is a dead giveaway as to where they drive (for those that have their location posted anyway )

I do get on average 24-26mpgs on an Auto Clubman non-S in the boroughs of NYC.

I agree that "city" means very different things to different people. Before reading your posts on the subject, lurch, I was beginning to think there might be something wrong with my car even though I know it gets great mileage once it's out on the open road (36+ in an auto. S) . In my "city" type of commute around the general Orlando area, I go from stop sign to stop light, idling at the lights, A/C on, often making several stops along the way conducting my daily business/errands. Since most everything is conveniently located within a few miles from home, short hops are the norm with occasional road trips being the only chance to really test the fuel economy. And yes, I drive very conservatively, though sadly (for this tank), my OBC is currently reading 21.0 mpg with an average speed of 20.4 mph. Frankly, this stinks; BUT (while dissapointed) I understand it's the nature of the drive. (I only wonder how low it could go if I were to really put my foot in it around town!)

I tried this on one tank and I averaged 20-22 ... but again on a non-S.

BTW, it sounds like you have the exact type of daily drive as I. It definetelly takes a hit on the mpg's

I don't even want to go there right now!

Looks like we'll just have to grin and bear it, but at least I'm glad to know I'm not alone!

Thank you! You are right about definition of city. I do get 28 with her clubman s auto and 31 with my mini s 6 speed. She says I drive to hard as she gets 30 in town in her car. I have pulled a 34 in mine in the city on a tank. It's driving easy, but not like a grandma.

Is city downtown chicago or downtown petoskey? Just telling ya what I get.

I think this is a great thread to help us soon-to-be MINI owners set our expectations.

I'm coming out of an Acura TL that's faster, plusher and (probably) more trouble-free than any MINI will ever be. Thing is.. I'm bored to tears.

Oh, to the previous poster who appended the mis-statement about Obama to his sig, please check your facts. See: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/ownwords.asp Best to keep silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. Ahem.

You've made a good point, srahaim. As a continuous MINI owner, I've almost forgotten what its like to drive a boring car.

If you could fix that link and make it work by removing that ")" at the end it would be great. Snopes is a great fact checking source.

This post was a cry for help.
The author has Munchausen syndrome.
Ignore the subject.

FlyingZ, though freedom of speech is Bill of Rights item,
blabbing your thoughts on your footer is lame. Get the politics off this website zealots.

I have to say though, Snopes isn't exactly hard fact. Some of the articles about Obama have no more proof than the articles they are supposed to refute. Just my $.02

Yup, let's leave the politics and religion at the door and stick to our own obsession - the MINI.

You know something, I always test drive a car before I buy it. If you had enough sense to do that, you would have discovered a lot of the things that you are complaining about. You sound like a whining boy. I have a feeling that nothing would suit you. I have had 2 Mini's and neve had a problem with either one of them, but I also had an Audi TT and had nothing but trouble with it. That thing was one big piece of plastic crap. It is VW in disguise.
