I'll keep it as long as possible, hopefully for at least 200,000 miles. Same deal with my wife's 04 MC which has about 80,000 on it right now.

I've put as much effort into planning her birth, as I did my children.

I've never really taken that question into consideration. I know awhile back my MA dangled a carrot in front of me (a JCW clubman) and I passed on that. So it'll be a while, years, before I get rid of my Elphie!

I tend to keep cars for a fairly long time, as long as they are running well. I have had my current car for 8 years and if it weren't for the horrible gas mileage and high gas prices, I would have kept it as a daily driver even longer. That said, hubby will be in the market for a new car in about 2 years and he is already thinking about a MINI of his own (a JCW Coupe most likely). I envision that in about 5 years when my daughter gets her driver's licence (SCARY) I will pass Lola down to her and look at whatever latest and greatest MINI is out there (a Cabrio perhaps??). We really only get rid of a car when it no longer suits our needs or is costing too much to fix.

Long as I can or when they pry it from my cold dead hands!

I can't imagine parting right now so I guess the answer is whatever else I get in life that diminishes the appeal, I would still want to keep it. If nothing else I wouldn't want to just sell it to anyone, perhaps I could let a responsible relative keep it in the family.

The car seems to have a hold on me, I can really understand why people give them names. The comfort access almost gives it intelligence - at least it always knows where I am. The other day the key fob fell out of my pocket and it wouldn't let me lock myself out. It's almost like it misses me when I'm away!

My eight year old son has already requested our clubbie when he gets his license. And Mochalatte hasn't even gotten on the ship to come across teh pond yet!
If it means anything, we have my grandmother's 1968 MB 280SL, my 1982 MB 300TD wagon (which has been my daily drive until this summer), my husband's 1994 Toy(ota) Truck, his 2000 Volvo SW and my 2000 Toy(ota) Landcruiser. Currently the vehicle with the lowest mileage is my grandmother's 1968... Which has 135,000 miles on it. David's truck has 167k miles with the original clutch (it's just starting to slip!). The only cars that are giving us probs are the two MB's. Can't get the '68 to start, can't get the '82 to stop. I guess between the two we have a working/stopping vehicle, LOL...
So I'm guessing, even with my son wanting Mochalatte when he starts driving, we'll still have her and she'll be going strong.

Clyde is in production now. Should get it next month. :D Wife can hardly wait.

How long? Never can tell. I had my WRX for 130k miles (5 yrs) before I passed it on to my daughter (I needed a truck). We usually trade in when the car becomes unreliable, 100-200K mi. Time varies. I had a Jeep Cherokee for 2 1/2 yrs and traded it in with 125k miles. Had a pickup that was 7 yrs old and still less than 100k.
