After I release the E-Brake I engage the Sport button... the only way to go motoring In an S.

I disengage Sport mode when parking - makes maneuvering easier. I still drive occasionally with Sport mode off - some days it just seems to fit my mood better (it works better if you have heavy shoes on...) but I always drift back to sport pretty quickly. It's quite a Jekyll and Hyde situation.

Curses to you all...... I don't usually drive with the Sport button on, but today, Sheldon wanted to go. Snows melted up here and roads are clear. I forgot how much fun the sport mode is. Gawd I love this car........

Honestly... I've only pushed it 2/3 times since Ive had the car (3 months). The few times I have though... I was shocked at the difference it made! Maybe when I have more in the mod department will I hit it more.

I am be the only that does not use it. But I have accessport and set to linear tune. And in sport is also linear tune. So only the stewing wheel get heavier.

I think the 'Sport' button should be changed so to be called the 'Butch' button as I think its real purpose is to make suburban trips to MacDs seem badass. I can't see it does anything useful:
- It increases steering force, but not feel. The Mini has plenty of steering force already on fast bumpy roads, so how is increasing it better?
- It changes the ratio between pedal movement and 'throttle' movement. This just reduces the sensitivity at the point where tyre slip is likely - and that's a good thing?

With an automatic, the changes in the shift points might be a real benefit, but isn't the auto box adaptive, so it will change the shift points itself after some minutes of 'enthusiastic' driving?

I hit it the second after I start the car up, without fail -- it's an automatic motion for me now, I don't even think about it.

Driving the MINI without the Sport mode on feels like driving a geriatric old Civic, by way of comparison. I simply don't enjoy driving it at all without the button engaged, due to the lagged response time/lack of immediate feedback.

That's a permanent "sport button"

The sport button on the N18 has a much better throttle curve than my '07S had and it is much easier to drive, and the bonus is the pop and burble. I almost never ran it on the '07; now I run with it on about a third of the time.

I've put it on a couple of times, but for driving around town - which is mostly how this car gets used, it's really not necessary. But it was fun on that deserted twisty back road.

I saw somewhere a little capicator that enables the sport button on permanently

I need to find it again, I cant remember where it was :(

I never use it nowadays. I think the last time I pushed the Sport button was maybe 3 months ago out of sheer curiosity to see how different it might feel. It stayed on for about 2 miles after which I turned it off and haven't used it since. I'm finding the throttle response as-is is fine, plus I like the lighter steering feel of non-sport. If I need to get on it I just press the right pedal a little harder. But really, when it comes to power delivery being in the right gear is more important.

I drive a non-S manual Cooper, btw.

I use Sport mode half and half. The difference for 'S' is obvious in acceleration. Fuel consumption is more in city but not much different in free way.

Uh always? I press the start button then the sport button. I never drive a foot without it. The S models are a slow sluggish soft steering blah car without it. Why drive a minute without it??? I guess if you have an automatic, you can save some gas with it off. But with a manual there would never be a reason to put a significant "governor" on your MINI when you are driving. If you loaned it to a friend then maybe. But yourself? Why would you want to limit max boost and torque (you never know when you'll need it), quicker throttle response and responsive steering???

Not using the sport button does not limit max boost or torque. Use of the sport button is just "feel" issue for the driver.

Read all MINI and outside reviews of all S models. The sport button gives OVERBOOST...approximately 2lbs more of boost available which is an increase of 15lbs of torque for 10 seconds (177lbs vs 192lbs).

I live in a "garden" of lasers, radar traps, and unmarked gestapo, I mean police.
I got a ticket 3 years ago for 70 in a 55.
All said it was $500.00 and some change.
As for "what it does"? The Mini website is pretty vague. What I feel is: A different torque curve (MAP #2?) The EPAS steering is slower, firmer. The car much less twitchy, and the dampers feel like the valving changes, but I dont see anything about electronic damping on the suspension sections of the MC website.
Anybody?

I usually always drive in sport mode unless it's stop and go traffic. The wife drives it in normal mode until she gets pissed with the idiot slow driver in front of her.

I usually drive with Sport on because the steering response feels more precise than with it off.
but am i the only one who doesn't hear that "pop" from the muffler when sport is on??

On my justa, Sport mode is always on. Same routine for me. Buckle up, start it up, Sport Mode ON and off I go. There is a very discernible difference in steering feel and throttle response. Shifting feels much better too with Sport mode. Can't wait to see how it feels once I have the torque arm insert installed.
