R55 Below MSRP

You seem to have such a low opinion of MINI stealerships why are you still considering a MINI? The VW camp mustn't be as great as you are claiming ?

..just curious as to how high you need to go to get 2K off?

I went with the dealer with the lowest dock fee, and a $500 accessory credit, as well as a MA who actually responds to my emails, and has been very helpful when ever I have a question.
So far, I'm happy. My car is slotted for build week 10. I haven't been given a Production Number yet. Soon... I hope.

You're quite right, the more you load on, the bigger the cut can be, the dealer still has to make something to make it worth their while...I've added the complete (Canadian) spec to my signature.

Anybody know what happens to their cars? I'd like a Mini but if you want to give me a Pontiac I won't say no
International Mini was willing to go 2 grand off in stock Clubman S or a grand off a custom ordered one with little to no options(I just wanted alarm and MSFW). Oh and I believe you need to be at the very least above 20k in price to get a 2 grand discount. Dealer mark up is only 10%.

Rarely is it offered. I usually find the specific car I want and then tell them what I am willing to pay. And then the games begin. They hate to see you walk out the door. Two cars ago, after give and take on both sides we were $200 apart (car had a bit more than I wanted so was not willing to budge anymore than I had). They let me walk out the door. Next day they called me and agreed to my price as long as I came in right away and signed a deal.
If you are going to order, go through the configuration process. Show them you are serious and consume their time. Just before end of month too. Finish and tell them this is what you are willing to pay. (Not as a game, be seriously ready to buy). If they say they do not discount, just tell them sorry, you had understood that in the weak economy folks were receiving substantial discounts on ordered Minis. Then get up and leave.

The ship re-routing gave me extra 10 days to look around at other cars and I still want the Clubbie, but I'll definitely be negotiating hard when time comes to pick the car up. Judging by carsdirect.com, the invoice on my config is in the $27.5K range, so if they agree on $29K + tax it will be a deal for both me and the dealer. Considering they haven't sold a single in-stock clubbie in a month I don't expect to walk out of on the deal, but I'm prepared to do it.

Zoltiz - The invoice on a Mini is 10% less than the MSRP. Options are also at the same discount. Should give you an idea of a good negotiating range.
On the website the Orlando Mini dealer shows 142 cars. My local dealer only had about 50 out front, but when I needed a particular configuration for a test drive he told me they had it on their back lot. They had over 140 on hand - and still do.

[What you described is a 10% markup, whereas Mini appears to have an 11.11% markup.]

YES. It can be done! My MA asked that I not advertise the deal I received, but I was able to get $1,000 Off MSRP. Shop around. My local dealers would not match the deal so I have to drive 200 miles for the discount. I'm willing to drive that far when a dealer treats me a little more special.
The nice thing about the MINI pricing is that it's all very Black and White. There's nowhere to "hide" the discount, so you know it's for real.
Good luck. Mine's shipping soon. Can't wait!

This article is about new cars in general but layoffs at the MINI plant factor large in the article. Perhaps the glut of stock will lead to more deals for consumers

There are a number of Mini dealers around the country showing $1k to $1.5k off 2009s in stock and $3k off 08s in stock. However, the dealers have likely not been ordering new cars - locally the two dealers' inventories have declined 10% to 15% gradually since mid January. If cars are stacking up at the mfr (I do not know), then incentives may be forthcoming for dealers are not going to buy until lots get cleared.

The 4.9% financing is from MINI financial services and is good for all US dealerships.
