Failed right side barn door gas charged strut

My gas charged strut for the right side barn door failed tonight

The strut was working fine until earlier today.... Anyway it fails to hold the door open and slams right back onto you. You can also hear the strut leaking air

First warranty claim since taking delivery in Feb. I have booked an appt to get the strut replaced under warranty next week.

Anyone else?

Not really. But then again I had never had any of those gas filled struts failed on any past MINI or any other car for that matter.

Typically, these struts fail because of use and age. So in reality, they are wear items.

Otherwise, the car has been flawless

The strut is like $32 bucks and takes 5-10 minutes to install.

I have an appt for next Wed. Dealer didn't have the parts in stock, so they were ordered today. The warranty will pick up the tab.

Yeah, I hope is just a defective one. However, I am also thinking that the nature of the barn doors and the way the open may actually put more stress on the struts themselves than a conventional hatch design.

The right barn door always get opened first. The left side barn door strut is fine. the failed one is the one that gets the most use.
