H13 bulb replacement

the only thing I regret about my Clubman purchase is not going for the Xenons. The standard lights suck (and I am polite here).

So, I'm searching for bulb replacement that will give me more "performance". I don't care for the color. I just want to see better. Anyone has real life experiences and recommendations? And life expectancy of these new bulbs?

I also see comments about the lights aiming too low. How do I get them to aim higher (i.e. how do I adjust the headlights?)

Thanks :-)

dunno about Canada but here you can get Sylvania SilverStar lamps at any decent autoparts store

I put them in the 02 about 4 years ago and one just recently burned out. So I replaced both sides with ULTA's again...I liked the improvement. Note that on your GEN2 the high and low are sep' bulbs so if you want to change both you'll need two bulbs per side.

Any garage should be able to check your hl aim, but I caution on doing it yourself as you will probably set them high and blind oncoming traffic.

If it is the the H13 here is a list of bulbs from Sylvania. They do show the Clubman to be different as stated be Capt bj. I changed to the H13ST and it does help. Now I want to change the parking and driving to match. You can see the difference when they are all on. The headlights are so much whiter now.

I have just the standard lights (Halogen) on my Clubman and I think they work great just the way they are....

H13's from Silverstar sucks. I see very little, if any change from stock(the view from driver seat anyway-and there's where it counts)

I might just cough up the $300 for HID's

Really? Which ones did you use? I could tell a difference as well as my wife when she was in the car. I used the H13ST bulbs. If you used the standard H13 you probably wouldn't see a difference since these are a stock output replacement bulb.

Do they change the whole housing? Or just the insides? Because Halogen are reflectors. And HID are projectors. So completely different lens configurations. If you only switch the harness and bulbs, the results won't be that good

Installed PIAA's - worth the $70 investment. I've run PIAA's and Silverstars for years. My PIAA's in my E28 have run 7 yrs strong. I recommend the H13 upgrade for non-Xenons...

Don't believe them. All they will do is place HID bulbs into your halogen housing. This doesn't work. The housings are not meant to work with the longer slender bulb size inherent in HID's. This leads to WORSE light output and also produces glare for oncoming traffic. It's both illegal and a poor choice to put get these "HID retrofits".

The only true way to retrofit HID's is to either get the OEM xenon headlights OR replace your halogen housing with a HID projector which will cost far more than $300.

Rally: Can you just get OEM xenons and bolt it on without issues? Or are there more than the headlamps to replace?

Depends on what you want to function. If you want the levelling and washing system to work you'll need a bunch more parts.

The OEM upgrade will cost you about $700+... each side.

To be honest I haven't checked my clubman's owner manual. I just know that it was included in my old R50's manual with all the other maintenance stuff. I just assumed that they would include it in the new manuals as well since it's a common maintenance procedure. It's really not in there
