Boot Trim Rust?

Anyone else getting a spotty rust discoloration on the 2 two trim parts on the barn doors? The Clubman has been nuked with road salt for the past 2 months, but it seems a bit pre-mature. I have been spraying down the Clubbie once a week or so to get the grime/salt off (at least when it has been above freezing...), so I am a bit disappointed if it is rust.

If you are talking about the two chrome strips just below the windows. I is is not really rust.

Check out the detailing section and you should be able to find some threads on cleaning this. OR you can contact some of the vendors for detailing products to find out how best to clean it.

Try using a clay bar to remove any deposits on your boot, I have the same thing its just junk deposits, comes right off with a clay bar...

Remember your MINI has a 12 year/unlimited mileage rustproof guarantee. If in doubt, always take it back to the dealer for an inspection.

I'm pretty sure the rust guarantee does not cover trim pieces. It's for body panels. Still, the trim is covered for 4/50k if it's a defective part.

Thanks all - I will take a crack at removing it before hoofing it to a dealer.

I went in for an unrelated issue and they replaced mine without any apparent "rust". They called it a "recall", but I haven't checked the service writeup yet to confirm that it was a true recall issue.

I too have noticed the chrome strips on the rear barn doors (just below the windows) featuring this rust staining. It does come off when cleaned, but it does return.
