R55 How good is your Clubman's MPG?

Key may also be not having the 'Language" setting correct in the OBC. I was getting mpg that was superior--in the same range--until I discovered that "English (UK)" isn't the same as "English (US)". Seems simple, but I drove for six months using the wrong setting and not understanding why there was such a discrepancy between my hand-calculated figures and the OBC.

I would also assume the computer is a bit on the high side. They usually are. Nevertheless, I was pleased in getting 31.3 on the 4+ hour trip from LA to SF Bay when I picked the car up. Did 85 the whole way. For those who don't know I-5, this is not really crazy fast. Kind of middle of the pack....

I will give the site a looksie...btw I LOVE your Mellow Yellow Clubman! I really wish that they would have allowed for that on the "S" at the time we got ours!
I always to the Pen/Paper method on our vehicles...kinda OCD about that ! I literally drive the clubbie like I stole it (and actually followed the MA's 1200 mile rule for redline...although VERY counter intuitive for me). My commute of 32 miles to work each day has about 10 miles of hilly city driving and the rest highway...speed limit is 65 and 70 but I am typically anywhere from 85-90 and still get the 33 MPG.
To be honest, I was VERY surprised at how well the car does for MPG. Other cars are 93 Jeep Wrangler (heavily modified for off road so MPG is a non-issue), 2002 Jeep Liberty (18-21 MPG), and a 2005.5 VW Jetta TDI (mid to high 40's same driving style...like I stole it). When going for max fuel economy in the Jetta I let it run at 2200 RPM and I have put 803 miles on a single tank! My personal record. The nice thing about the VW is that it continues to get better MPG as the engine breaks in (I have 70K on it now).

Thanks for the compliment - I am very happy with the Color combination. I know many "S" owners would have liked to have Mellow Yellow as an option. I know of one guy who purchased the 'S" in Black and painted the entire car [after it was deliverred] Mellow Yellow at a local paint shop expect for Black [permanent] Stripes!
I'm also surprised with how well my Clubman does on the Highway [and city]. I figure that my overall [City and Highway] is around 36 MPG. It was actually one of the reason why I ended up getting the a MINI. Between building what you want, total customization and great gas mileage, it's a kick-*** car!
BTW, did you get the roof rack when you bought the car or after market?
Regards,

The roof rails were factory installed. I asked my MA if they can be put on after the fact and he stated NO. There is some extra support, according to him, in the roof with the roof rail option. We could have gone the Rack route from mini but we did not like the way that looked. The rails will allow us to put on aftermarkets like Thule very easily in the future. Plus we have some of the "soft" luggage carriers that we have used with roof rails on our jeep liberty and when I had a Lincoln Navigator a few years back (glad I had the forethought to sell it back in the beginning of 2005 and pick up my TDI Jetta....never would have guessed that fuel prices would get as high as they did and are continuing to do so!).
Now mind you, we did not get the clubman for pure fuel economy. It was just an added benefit! I am really surprised at how well it does...we certainly put it through its paces....man that thing is QUICK and you can be doing 100+ in no time if not paying attention ! My dear wife does NOT do this but I certainly do. Coming home from dinner last night we got a "tad bit fast" and I didn't notice until my wife noticed....I am going to get a ticket one of these days .

Mike 1968NM,
I think the one accessory I messed up not getting is the factory roof rails.
And speed; oh yes! Even with the Base Clubman, you have to watch the pedal. With the huge "Speedo" in the middle, my boys are always telling me what my speed is; which is usually too fast!
If I get a ticket, I'll never hear the end of it from the both of them.....

Yup. Be aware that the English setting is using British Gallons. A British gallon is a little over 4.8 US quarts so beware. You might be overestimating your average MPG.

That's pretty close to what my computer says I'm getting, after ~3K miles. However, using the pen/paper method yesterday I got ~36.5MPG out of the last tank of fuel. That was for mostly highway - with stop&go on the Capitol Beltway - for our return trip to NoVA from Lewes, DE.
I figure if I was able to keep a consistent speed I might see 40MPG on the highway

Yeah, when the display says CONSMP - that' UK setting.
Lifetime average so far is 29MPG, can get 36-37MPG with slow highway driving (under 70mph), a lot worse at normal Atlanta hwy speed (80mph+). If I drive it like I want to in town, then I get 25MPG max.
46MPG should be doable on long 55mph stretches, maybe even 60mph with auto since 6th gear is a lot longer on autos (WTF?).

I've been following different mileage threads, and it seems that I am the lowest one always. Could it be something wrong with my Clubbie?
Already when the tank is full, it says 360 miles to next filling. The number goes down as I am driving... filling that thing at around 310 miles, when I am getting the last red notch.
Any thoughts, anybody?

Hmmmm....that's odd from what I have read....City driving can take a toll depending on just how stop and go your traffic is.
Couple of things you can check....Tire Pressure make sure it is correct. Air conditioning typically can take about 10% to 15% off of MPG depending on the car and conditions.
I honestly haven't heard of a clubbie with that low of an MPG.
