advice for broken mini
i had my 2008 brown mini cooper s clubman with checkered flag rear windows and rear view mirror covers - black racing stripes, and black sport interior in for its birthday service last week
including the first oil change as we had gone 17500 in one year.
we LOVE our mini..........
then we left it behind two days later for vacation...
went to drive it last night for the first time ..
and the engine malfunction yellow warning light appeared.
the manual says - 'continue your journey, proceed with caution.'
so we proceeded over to the dealership- broke down on the interstate..

Oh no, I'm so sorry!!! You must be heartbroken!!! This really scares me because I dropped my very loved MINI at the dealership for his first oil change yesterday. Since I live 100 miles away I had to leave him behind and will pick him up in a couple of days. I guess I should check under the hood before I leave. Which dealership was this?
YES, they should give you a full warranty on the new engine!!!

Sorry (very sorry) to hear of your troubles.
It's been a while since I had the hood up on the MINI; does it make sense that your coolant cap would be sitting where they left it after you drove it home? Just to cover all the bases, how long were you gone on vacation and was there anyone else with access to your MINI while you were gone? I know that seems far-fetched but it may be worth ruling out. If it happened at the dealer, is there any way to track the paperwork to determine who worked on the car, how long they worked on it, what parts / fluids they replaced, etc.?
I hope it gets resolved for you soon--I feel for ya!

Hope it all works out for you, I'm sure it will. My Mini goes in this Saturday for its first annual maintenance, I only have 7,000 miles on it. I'm kinda nervous, will definitely check under the hood before I leave but from personal experience and from what I've heard others say, Mini of Hawaii service is really good!

Just found this thread, thanks to Benibiker's posting a link for another Clubman owner whose Clubman "lost" all of its coolant too.
Interesting that the cap was still sitting there and hadn't been lost altogether.
Extremely glad to hear MINI is standing by you and their product! Please keep us posted.

Wow!! Really bad.
The problem with most dealers is they just get a stupid idiot to change oil Etc. because they don't want to pay more then minimum wages. They get exactly what they pay for. The oil change monkey's at the GM dealers are always screwing up peoples Corvette's because they just are not trained or could care less.
Anytime you ever have anyone work on your car you need to really go over the car with a fine tooth comb. Check for door dings as well as whatever thing that was done. Check the tool kit as well as anything you left in the car to be sure it is still there. Check Everything.
It is not easy to find a person that cares as much as you do about your car. You would think the Dealership Owners would be more careful about who they hire but it is not so.
