Oil Consumption

Had the Clubman about three weeks now, about 900 miles. This morning I washed, waxed, checked tires and fluids. The oil was down almost to ad so the car has used almost a quart in 900 miles. Is this normal and should i expect it to decrease after it breaks in?

Regards,

Larry

My 08 lost about quart in the first 10k miles. Since then, now at 30k miles, it hasn't lost any.

New engines will generally use some oil until they are broken in.If you drive it very gently and/or do mostly city type driving the break in will take longer and will consume more oil.A quart per 1000mi isn't out of the norm.

I have an added question to this thread. Since synthetic oil doesnot burn, where is the oil going? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Synthetic oil does burn, you just don't really see it as the catalytic converter tends to vaporize it and you don't see the smoke. To see smoke from the tailpipe of a cat equipped car the engine has to be pumping a lot of oil into the exhaust system.I had an old Mercedes that would consume a quart of 40wt. in 500mi. and I never noticed any smoke.
