Fueling Issue

I am having some trouble with fueling my 08 Clubman. More times than not, I put the nozzle in and the pump will not allow any fuel out. It acts like the gas is already full in the tank to the nozzle. Sometimes if I lift or turn things a certain way, it will start working. Other times, it works just it should. Othertimes, nothing will work. This has happened at multiple stations and multiple pumps with no rhyme or reason.

I took it by the dealer and we ran over to the local station and of course it worked just fine. They didn't have any suggestions.

So, has anyone else experienced a similar issue and, if you have, what was the cure? Or is there just a secret handshake and dance I don't know about . . .

Ahhhhhhem,,,, stop trying to bury the nozzle. Put it in to the curve and no further, the curviture of the fuel neck is giving splash back and causing it to think the tank is full. Use the slower notch on the fuel lock too.
This is a new one for me to see here, but it is common on a lot of vehicles.

Yep, similar issues....either don't put it in so far, or I also found that moving the handle part of the nozzle more to the rear caused it to flow better....once you get the hang of it it's no issue, and I can fill it at full "throttle"......

Yes this is an issue where the curve of the gas pump handle and the curve of the filler tube in the MINI can conflict with each other.

Another problem with some pumps is that they are set VERY sensitive to the "Back Preassure" for shut-off.

I just gave up. It's either get 350 miles on a wish or stand there and hold it. Heck, I never pump more than 10 or 11 gallons and it doesn't take that long.

Good shot Dave.

You should buy gas at that station near the dealer!

I was just wondering about this when I filled up this morning. I have noticed twice now that I had to readjust the nozzle so that it would keep filling up. I have only gone 2200 miles; tank has been filled about 7 times, not including what the dealer gave me. My husband is kind enough to fill my tank when he is with me, so I have really only filled my car up 3 times. At least now I know it isn't just me!
