Noisy Tire...Any Recommandation for Replacment?

I had my General Exclaim UHP on 205/45-17 for the last 30,000 mile, they are great tire for the price but it's now so noisy that I would like to replace them even with over 5/32 trend wear left. Any recommendation? I would like it to be relatively inexpensive and also less noisy.

Thanks

I just purchased the continental extremecontact DWS a few weeks ago and have been happy with the performance and low noise so far.

If you want a good all season the DWS is good. It's quiet but VERY squishy. If you drive it hard and like to get on it in the corners, it's not the tire for you. It's also not a cheap tire either. I personally hated them and took them off after 3 days. Replace with bridgestone potenza RE760 Sports...stiff, grippy and quiet, more pricey but perfect for me!

Now for a really good INEXPENSIVE tire. The Hankook Ventus V12 Evo is a great tire at less than 100.00 at discount tire. Or the Yokahama S Drive for about the same money. A lot of people like the Yoko's here!

Yokohama S Drives were comfortable and low noise in the beginning but after only about 5K miles they started getting very very noisy. Even noisier than the OEM Dunlop Sport 01 runflats that came on the car

They stuck to the pavement very well and cornered great. Very comfident feel to they when driving the car hard. Down fall there is that i only got about 12K miles out of the set. Others have gotten more miles out of them but I also have no idea how hard they drive their cars.

Of course please take this only as my experience it is not a rant about how bad they are. Infact i will be buying another set of them for this summer. I think if i rotate them much more often maybe every 1500-2000 miles they may not get as noisy. Also cor the price if i buy a new set every year it still works out heaper than buyinf a tire that is three times more expensive only getting 20k out of them. Or even cheaper than sliding into something going around a corner on something that does not stick as well to the street.

I understand that high performance summer tires would be generally less "squishy" then an all season tire. But the DWS is more comfortable and less noisy, and the op never mentioned performance in his question.

If you are interested in more performance, perhaps the Continental DW or the Dunlop Z1 Star Spec are a good alternatives to the tires mentioned earlier. I have not personally tired the s-drives and Ventus so I will not personally recommend them, not to say they are good or bad.

The OP stated "relatively inexpensive" and "less noisy". Sdrives and Hankook are both inexpensive and are less noisy than the original runflats.

DWS's are quiet, just a little more expensive.

+1 for the Hankooks. I've had them for 1.5 years and they are still quiet and ride well and handle great also. Had the Yoko S. Drives for a week before I traded them for the Hankooks and hated them. Very low grip compared to the Hankooks and seemed bouncy over bad pavement.

Kind of hard to tell what "relatively inexpensive" means from the ops standpoint. I can only say I like the Conti DWS for what I paid for it.

I put a set of these on in the fall and am very happy with them

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....odel=Ecsta+AST

Very reasonably priced, quiet so far, seem to be good in the rain and light snow, stiff sidewalls and good steering response. Hope that they have good wear characteristics.

The General Exclaim UHP were $88 per tire when I got it. I think around $100 is what I call "relatively inexpensive"

I heard the Conti DWS is "squishy" but the General Exclaim is also know for a soft sidewall...anyone had experience for both that can do a comparison?

How may miles on your hankooks? Also, what size are you running?

More information for all of you guys...It's all started when I test drove a Countryman S All 4 with 18 inches (don't know what brand/model tires are that using...only know it's runflat ) that was so quiet...almost BMW 3-Series quiet. When I got back to my Clubman, I told myself that the Clubman may not be quiet but could not be "that" noisy either. Then I know it's the tires after couple weeks of attention when driving the Clubman...

Thanks for all the "suggestions"

I think I am down to three choices: Contiential ExtremeContact DWS ($115), Contiential ExtremeContact DW ($129) or Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 ($92)...hard to choose...

Is DW better or worse then DWS for SoCal use? Hankook's price is hard to beat...

Decision decision decision

BTW, going to up size to 215/45-17

I can't speak from experience, but I would speculate that DW (dry/wet.) is more suitable for SoCal than DWS (Dry/Wet/Snow.)

If you do not see snow or low temperatures, dry tires may be more appropriate for you. That may mean that you might encounter some potential issues if you are a skier or like to go to the high sierras.

Also, if you are interested in high grip, consider the Dunlop z1 star specs. It can be a little noisy but this is one fantastic dry/wet tire.

I just recently switdhed to the Continental Extreme Contact a few weeks ago. It's a great tire so far. It handles very well in all conditions. I've driven them on dry, wet and snow covered roads. They also do very well if you like to drive agressive in the curves. Read the reviews on Tire Rack. They were the best rated tires when I was looking.

Are the DW quiet? What tires on yours before this.

Thanks

I would really be interested in your feedback on the Conti DWS's - how are they doing for you so far? How is handling? Is turn-in good or mushy? How about dry and wet traction? And, finally, are they quiet or noisy?

Thanks!

The DWS is super quiet and the ride quality is much better, handling is a bit off compare to the stock runflat but is on par with my last General UHP, turn in is a bit mushy and super dry and wet traction...I will take these minor trade off the quiet ride.
