What is that whining/whirring noise?

When I hit the unlock button after the car has been off for a bit of time. I hear this kind of high pitched whirring or whining noise coming from the interior. What is it?

Yeah, I noticed that too when I first got mine. I believe it's the fuel pump pressurizing the system. It's perfectly normal.

Ah so the system depressurizes after it sits for a bit. My Corvette does something similar when you hit the ignition. If it has been sitting you will hear the fuel pump kickin just before the starter engages. This is probably similar but due to the higher fuel pressures of a direct injected engine it does it once it senses or thinks you may wish to start the car in the immediate future.

Not only that, but if you sit in the car after you shut it down with everything off, after a minute or two you'll hear a series of "pop, clunk" as a valve opens and closes to depressurize the system.....mine does it 6 or 7 times......

I have a noise like that. It turns out that on my Clubman it's the CD player making a noise when I unlock the doors AND when there is no CD loaded in the player. Acts like it is trying to spin up and/or read a CD...Seems to move the head back an forth full travel a couple of times then gives up. I am not sure it happens all the time or not? No noise at all if a CD is in the player.
