Justa vs S

I was tempted to purchase a 2008 Clubman S but after reading about all the issues I am considering looking at a justa Clubman. Do they have the timing chain, etc. issues as well?

Thank You

No issues on the non-S?

You are correct that the Cooper has had fewer trouble areas than the Cooper S.

The MCS has had issues with melting hood scoops. The Cooper, of course, hasn't.

The MCS has had issues with the High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP). The Cooper doesn't have direct injection, so it doesn't have one.

The MCS has had issues with timing chain noise/failure. The MC *seems* to have fewer such issues.

The MCS has been recalled for the ultra-rare possibility of a turbo cooling fan short that can lead to engine fires. The MC is not part of the recall.

It seems like I'm missing something, but yes, the Cooper has avoided many of the most notable 2nd Gen MINI issues.

Drive both and decide what you want. I have one of each and they both have their advantages and disadvantages. I will buy my next MINIs as S models though. Don't let the internet scare you, but better aware of possible issues.

Agreed, I'm not saying not to buy an MCS, just answering the question. The major 2nd Gen MINI issues that you hear about on here are primarily or exclusively related to the MCS.

Yep, another MCS-specific issue. I knew I forgot some

Thank You for all the comments. I had an early S and it was great fun but the new ones seem too problematic.
May look at an early justacooper.

'02-'06? Stay away from the auto tranny unless it is an S. Also the earlier non-Ss had an iffy 5speed Midlands in them. Mine we at 50k randomly like many others. The slightly newer 5speed getrag is much better.

So do your research before buying for sure.
