Extended warranty refund

I just traded my 08 Clubman S in for a larger and more reliable SUV crossover. When I bought the clubman, I purchased the extended warranty and extended maintenance contracts which expire 3/27/2014.
The dealership that I purchased the new crossover from told me that I could get a refund from the local Mini dealership since I had not used 1/3 of each contract. Never heard of this before, and before I go back to the dealership to ask for a refund, was wondering if anyone knew of such a scenario.
Don't want to go back to embarrass myself in front of the biggest SOB service supervisor that I have ever encountered at said Mini dealership. I might be tempted to punch him out considering that I no longer own a Mini and have to take his BS anymore.
Would appreciate your knowledge and thoughts on this.

lol, no. Sounds like a load of crap. Those warranties are transferable, not refundable.

Years ago I had a car car get totaled in an accident and the extended warranty was refunded to me ( on a pro-rated basis ). Before you go down there I would double check and make sure it is refundable since you traded it in. But once the car is paid off ( warranty is paid off ) it should be refundable. Good luck.

Some are, some aren't. The extended warranty I bought with my used R55 is a GMAC warranty, and it is refundable (on a pro-rated basis). Just call and ask.

I might suggest you call a different Mini dealer as you are not on good terms with your current dealer. This should be a matter of Mini policy issue not something that is up to the dealers discretion.

I sold my mini clubman S exactly 2 years from buying it new on 3/28/2011, sold 3/28/2013. I filed all the paperwork with SF Mini. Thru SF Mini I paid $3,140 for the Extended Warranty, $700 for GAP ins and $1,249.00 for Tire & Wheel. Just got my refund check for only $2,140.76. There break down was as follows:
Warranty refund: 1,328.84
GAP 134.98 (I get it, it is GAP from day one)
Tire & Wheel 676.94 (this was ok since I had to use it to replace 1 tire)

But to keep $1,800 of my extended warranty which was not even close to the 4 yr or 50k miles from the basic warranty.

I agree with other post, if you probably won't keep it longer than 3 or 4 years, don't waste your money to only inflate what SF Mini makes.

added note, I actually got a copy of the breakdown on the warranty refund, they show that the dealer (SF Mini) gets just over $1,300 of what I paid for the warranty. So I will reitterate, if you don't hold onto cars for more than 3 or 4 years, don't bother with it. It seems to be another item that the dealer makes alot of money on.
