2009 OEM Roof Rack

I may look at a 2009 Clubman with OEM roof rack which I do not need. How difficult is it to remove and is there anything to cover afterward?

Thank You

If you mean the permanent factory roof ranks that is bolted to the roof, you have to lower the headliner to loosen the bolts that hold it onto the roof. Once you removed it you would have holes in the roof. You could use rubber gromlet (?) to cover the holes. I wanted to remove the factory roof rack on my XC90 Volvo and they had kits to cover the holes once you removed the rank.

Most people would rather have the permanent rack verses the add on roof rack.

Those black plastic roof rack rails are there to stay unfortunately. Some people like the clean look. You'd have to get one without them. I don't see a good solution to uninstalling them.

Is there a way to have those installed on a car that didn't have it from factory?

cWade, when you say roof rack, I interpret that as the factory added roof rack. I put one on my car shortly after I bought the car and it
is really excellent. If I remember correctly, there is a "T" handled allen wrench that comes with the rack and you would simply loosen the bolt and open the two pieces that clinch together just below the plastic
rain gutter. It's reasonably easy to uninstall. It will, however, leave a 4 small cuts in the rain gutter at each attachment point.

GOOD LUCK.

I guess there is tough time explaining the rail, rack, cross bars... even I usually identify them incorrectly.

Roof Rack (for those WITHOUT Rails)

..........
Roof Railing

Roof Railing Crossmember (for those with factory-installed Rails)

BTW if there is anyone who wants to install the Roof Railings on their car here is Bubbleboy's thread:

If you want to remove the Roof Rack here is what chrunck posted:

Here are a couple pics of the rain gutter plugs. They're really not noticeable unless you're looking for them.
