Brake dust

Does anyone have tons of brake dust on the front? I washed the car a week ago and the front rims look like I never touch them!

I had the same problem. It is common to all MINIs. German manufacturers love soft brake pad compounds that make lots of black dust. I changed my brake pads to CarboTech Street pads. They are much easier on the rotors and almost no visible dust. Available from AutoXcooper.com and other sites.

Yep, the good old brake pads by MINI. I bought new rotors from Tire Rack and EBC greenstuff pads at 41k miles. Almost no visible brake dust in two weeks when it was nice out(snow covered my wheels for two weeks now lol).

From day one through now at 14,000 miles, I also get lots of grease splatter on the front wheels from somwhere under there (hub or steering??). Not sure if this is also normal, but will have MINI look at it next oil change.

Nothing like soft semi-metallic compound brake pads. Ceramics (as mentioned, I know) and carbon-ceramics (as mentioned again, I know) are the way to go, but if you do get the carbon-ceramics, be warned. Some of them produce WAAAAAY more dust than your original pads do. I had Performance Friction Carbon Ceramic pads on my GTP for a month or so. My god my wheels were black. Went back to Hawk ceramics and was much happier.
