rear view mirror cap question

Hello all,

Does anyone know where I can find a rear view mirror cap (custom or Union Jack or the like) for my rear view mirror with Universal Garage Door Opener, Auto Dimming?
It seems the custom ones you can order are only available for the basic rear view mirrors without the excess buttons.

Any ideas?

THANKS!

I haven't seen any that are notched for the buttons, but the covers are made of a very thin plastic so it's easy to cut a notch with an x-acto knife.

A little tip: put a little dab of lipstick on the edge of the buttons, dry fit the cover in place (i.e. don't remove the red strips on the tape yet!) and press around the buttons to transfer the lipstick onto the inside of the cover to mark where you'll need to cut.

Thanks for the reply Kirby!
I've thought about doing that, but was hoping I wasn't going to have to start mod'ing the new caps...
I heard the mirror caps are really "brittle/thin" and it's a pain to remove the original and get the new ones on....

Here is one and it just fits over the OEM one with 3M tape.

If you are patient you can trim with an exacto knife really easily... I did mine myself and the longest time it took was walking from my desk back to the car to make sure I trimmed it just enough... It took about 3 trips to fine tune the cuts as I made the millimetre notches to ensure a good fit.

Rick, that's the one I was looking at. I was just afraid it would be beyond my fine-motor skills to trim it LOL

Ps one other thing too... If you decide to do the caps on the wing mirrors too and you have non power fold mirrors... Forget the credit card or spork tip... Stand behind the mirror, (reflective side away from you) grab the edge as best you can from the top and pull... The first one will make you nervous as you are not sure how much to gauge in resistance... The second is 10second job. It should pop and you will have your clips... i have did that mod twice already both on mine and to my mini and my neighbours clubman.

I'll still have to trim that one though because I have the universal garage door opener.... the only difference between those is the dimming and non dimming.
But at least they have those options.

"The mirror covers can not be installed on car with the optional universal garage door opener. & Not for vehicles with Garage Door Opener (option 319)." http://www.shopminiusa.com/PRODUCT/5...CenterId=66788

thanks for the tip, I'll keep that in mind. Not sure that I'll replace those mirrors though. I like the black ones I have, they match the rest of the car nicely, I think. The roof is all black and the car has the black accents with the horizon blue base color.
I might consider changing them out in the future if they come out with more designs.
There should be some more pics of the car in 'the Gallery' or 'My Garage'...

I'm thinking the minute mine begin to fade or crack or yellow, I will place my black caps back on. May color match them to the roof trim first or try the carbon fiber paint trick on them along with side scuttles especially if I do my stripes in carbon fiber.
