Maintenance and repair after 60k miles
I am researching extended warranties (I know, I know, you have to research carefully, some people think they are great, others think a ripoff) but ultimately my decision will be based on what my repair costs (not maintenance) are likely to be from 60k miles to 100k miles (Gen 2, S). So that is my question to this wonderful forum: What is a reasonable estimate assuming my MINI is pampered, well maintained, not modded mechanically, not raced, etc. Question is simple: Will it exceed $3000 or not? I know a transmission (i have auto trans) alone can cost twice that but what are the chances of needed to replace the tranny if it is properly serviced (though auto trans service consists of changing fluid at 100k). I know there are different opinions on that too but I return to my original question: How likely is it that repairs during the 60k-100k period will exceed $3000? Thanks in advance to all for your input.

I am in the process of researching an extended warranty also for my 2010 S with 10K on it. The factory warranty is up in another year, but I'm getting a sense for the complexity of this and I want to take my time to get as much info as I can.
I am curious about the ones you are looking into. The MINI warranty is looking competitive for me, but the problem I see with it is that it starts from the vehicle in-service date. So when they give you price for a 72 month/100K plan, you are only getting 2 years more over the original factory. You are probably already aware of this, though.
My SA at the dealership pulled out a couple of work orders for clutches that they were currently replacing at the time I was speaking with him. The $3,700 total bill was a bit disconcerting that he could pull out those two on an in-passing conversation. He kept warning me about fly by night operations that fold up after taking your money. He had another current example of that he produced during our conversation.
