Oil leak! Any ideas?

Ok so my cursed Mini has run into another problem. A couple of days ago there was a puddle of oil from under my car after driving it. At first I thought it was the oil pan from me hitting a divet in the road the day before. But I checked it and it was dry. Upon further inspection, the oil seems "clean" almost like brake fluid. Also the oil is all over the drive shaft and coming from somewhere above. I know its not a valve leak and I certainly hope it's not a head gasket. And like I said the oil seems clean. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What side of the car is it on? Driver or passenger? or both?

Also you gotta give more info on your car. Year, make, etc.

Could also be transmission fluid. Perhaps a leaking axle seal? Fortunately it's a fairly easy replacement.

I'll post pictures soon. It's an 08 clubman s with 67k. It's leaking on the driver side but can't find the exact spot. I always thought transmission fluid would be red, but that might not be the case for the minis.

Pictures

Here's some pics. You can see in the first one in the upper left corner oil residue from what I believe to be the transmission cooler at the bottom but nothing at the top. Also in the second pic, you can see some residue in the bottom right. The oil is all over the axle and is coming from somewhere above it seems.
