Euro MINI tail-lights
I just ordered the central European tail lights 63217255915/16. These come with the amber LED ring that are not included on the US Spec MINI's. They should be in next week. I think they should be plug and play.

I have a 2013 Clubman, these will work on any Clubman after Aug-2010 when the LEDs rear lights were added to the Clubman. I agree with it being safer, not only does it have the Amber turn signal the middle red-light (our turn signal) comes on as part of the drive light. I will post photos they are due in on Tuesday...

FYI, in the video, yes the turn signals are amber but they are not LED (notice they fade in and out like standard bulbs).
When the refreshed 2011 MINI came out, there was hype about "LED tail lights", but it was misleading. The brakes and turn signals continued to use standard bulbs. Only the running lights have LED lit stripes (more obvious in the hatchback than the Clubman).
See this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t-clubman.html (notably the last post)

rkw,
I am pretty sure they are a LED amber ring, I will have them this coming week so I will know for sure... If they aren't LED then there should be an option to replace the standard bulb. Also the center light (US Spec turn signal), I think maybe LED - looks like a thin defined line.

My friend in Wiesbaden just picked up my tail lights and took these photos... They are shipping out tomorrow... Doesn't look like the amber turn signal are LED, however I think the center red-lens has some sort of additional light - as in the above video at min 1:18

Well there are lots of photos of MINI Clubman's that are euro-spec... So we will have to see if they are plug and play... The two links below say that these aftermarket LED light are plug and play, so that covers both American and Euro spec - I am pretty confident no pin changing will be required...

rkw, yeah I agree no LED but base on the photos I received it looks like it has three standard bulbs just like the us spec... what do you make of the thin-line-light in the center red lens - for my US spec its the turn signal - in the first video it comes on with the drive lights, any thoughts? I am still hopeful its plug and play...
I changed my countryman with euro taillights and that was just the color of the lens (from all red to having a amber circle on the external lens vice red...

I think there's a very good chance it will be plug-and-play. You'll find out soon enough. It makes sense for MINI to use the same wiring harness for US and Euro, and put the signals on the same wires. The only possible difference I could imagine is that the pins in the connector might be in different positions, but it is easy to swap pin positions.

yeah this will be interesting, only the part I don't get is if the center standard bulb acts as the amber turn signal, then there has to be an extra light for the center red lens and if so it would have to be blocked off from the turn signal... if that makes sense...

I had to call my friend and get some info on the difference between the housing and lighting configuration between the US Spec and Euro Spec.. Its clear now I am very confident they are plug-and-play.
When the center bulb is pulled-out you can see unlike ours (just a center-red-lens) there is a mirror covering the center red-lens....
http://s90.photobucket.com/user/boso...tml?sort=3&o=2
Also there a two small wires going the center-red-lens, which is a 1.5"-2" LED light between the internal center mirror and the red-center-lens. which can be seen at 1.18 in the video... I actually think this makes it safer instead of just having the upper and lower red LED - these have the additional center LED when the drive lights are on.

The center bulb has the same function as ours, as seen in the photo - the mirror is center with the small (cut outs) at clock location 12/3/6/9 to the amber ring...

Not the best photos but clears up how BMW made the changes(when I referred to the mirror I realize its a reflective plastic)... I spent 10 years in Europe before returning in May 2013 and I always saw what I thought were ways BMW/VW saved money.
