Car down!

My 14' is spending the night at the dealership. Both key fabs do not lock or unlock the car. They start the car but that is it. The service mgr said this is an extremely rare occurrence. I can say rare occurrences in my past lead to more occurrences. I will stay positive though and hope it's just a simple fix. Meanwhile, I am driving a loaner car from them that has NO POWER! It's a 14' Clubman non S.

I would not call that car down. But weird that the computer recognizes the FOB to start. Did you unlock/lock work from switch inside ?

First I thought it was a battery issue but I wasn't aware that key system doesn't operate using a battery.

You can't drive it with doors unlocked .

And what do you mean not battery operated ? I'm 99.99% sure electric door locks need a battery

Once I got a justa cooper loaner, I agree no power.

The new key's have a computer in them there is absolutely no battery, according to the svc mgr. I could drive it but the point is I paid for a keyless entry and damn it I want my $$$ worth lol. Plus, its under warranty so need to take advantage.

I think your SA is lost. I was told there is a battery in there and it gets charged when in the key slot and to switch my fobs around so they both get charged. No computer or chip is gonna run without power from somewhere and since you can use your FOB , atleast mine to unlock lock roll down windows without it being in the car I'll guarantee you there is a battery in the FOB.

According to the 2014 Clubman manual, the remote control with comfort access has a battery that must be replaced from time to time.

True, however the non CA keys use a sealed internal battery that gets charged inductively when the car is running. The fob also gets data sent to/from it. It records engine and service data, as well as coding for personal comfort features (HVAC, radio settings, etc..).

If I had to guess it's the module that reads they keys (remote functions) or antenna that have failed.

That is where the dealership is looking right now.

Sounds to me, the antennae in the rearview mirror went dead. Reason I know is because that is what happened to me. They ended up replacing the whole mirror.
