Cooper s fault codes p2097 p2178
Hi can any one help with the fault codes listed.
Mini Cooper s 2008 car has a perfect idle however take it up to 1500 rev she is all over the place hesitation, also the cat converter smells.
Driving the car from the lights is also hard to pull of you have to give is some acceleration and play the clutch, when up and rolling you can feel the judder from the engine and delay on acceleration.
Point to make if this helps if I disconnect the cam sensor it takes longer to start and puts a fault code for the sensor but runs fine.
Any help would be appreciated.
Diesel Dave.

Diesel, have you scanned with a Bavarian Technic scanner or a generic OBDII unit?
Reason being is there's several listing of the same generic P-codes versus the specific MINI fault code:
* MINI DTC P2097 (0x2AC1) - Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Rich (Bank 1)
* MINI DTC P2097 (0x2BCA) - Pre-Catalyst Oxygen Sensor, Mixture Fine-Tuning: Exhaust gas behind catalytic converter too rich
* MINI DTC P2097 (0x2D33) - Before-catalyst Oxygen Sensors, System Check: Signal Stuck on Lean
* MINI DTC P2178 (0x2746 or 0x274E or 0x2BC1) - Fuel Trim Limit Exceeded System too Rich
The ECU is seeing too rich of burn and it's saying it's been trying to adjust, but still hasn't been able to correct itself.
Time to go through and check items like air filters, spark plugs, and seeing if there's any intake leak on the engine.

Eric.
Thanks for your reply.
The scanner is the Creader 129 pro, not a bad piece of kit.
On looking at your reply I can read p2097 (2746) and (2ac1) Which I thought could be a problem with the pre cat sensor.
On driving the car long term fuel trim is at max -25.and some times I have CL fault or OL fault.
Checked for air leaks and can not find any, plugs new, air filter new.
Have you any thought on why the car runs ok with the cam sensor disconnected.
Does this put the vehicle into a different system to monitor the air fuel ratio.
And one more thing with the cam sensor disconnected the car does not pop and back fire as it does with it connected.
Thanks again Diesel....

You need to source why the ECU is trying to adjust fuel trim; there's something being overlooked and needs to be addressed.
