Am I covered?
PLEASE HELP
I purchased a used 2008 mini clubman last year. I had an issue last year and had to have a thermostat replaced. The mechanic at Muncie imports said they heard a little noise and notified me about the timing chain problems. he gave me service number to mini of indy. I am not sure who I spoke with but he said he thought it was the tensioner and would be around 3 grand. he told me though that if its running fine I could keep driving it and it would not cause any damage. I have driven ever since. occasionally the yellow check engine light would come on but shut off after a couple starts. well now all of a sudden my check engine light is staying on. clubman is now jerky and runs really bad when air is on and shfts rough at times hearing a rattle at times now also. I decided to look up info yesterday and see all the class action lawsuit stuff. am I too late? am I covered? I am convinced the car is about to stop running. I am parking it till I get it fixed. just do not know what I need to do? I do not trust calling mini of indy as they told me it would not cause any engine damage to keep driving and now I am reading about all the damage this problem is causing.

That CCID code is rather useless in diagnostic, you need to find a qualified Euro indy shop. We have timing cassettes installed for around $800 and you're back on the road same day.
If you are in fact having timing cassette problems I highly recommend not driving the car AT ALL until it is fixed.

How many miles on your car?
I purchased a 2008 Clubman S a little over a month ago, and my local MINI dealer did the timing chain/tensioners/guides service for me at no charge. I think coverage varies a LOT depending on the local dealer. My Clubman S had 68,000 on it when they did the service.
