2009 Clubby AC Running Hot & Cold

I apologize if I'm putting this in the wrong place, but couldn't find any posts that exactly describes what's going on with my 2009 Clubman (w/93,666 miles- perhaps its the demonic "666" effect). Back OT, it's AC is blowing cool AC (per norm) but then a few minutes later it starts blowing hot/humid air and then goes back to blowing cool air. It seems to get worse when I stop (traffic lights). , I can tell the compressor is running, because I can feel when it happens the car: struggles a bit going up hills (its always done this). I used to leave the temperature anywhere between 68 to 70 and sometimes that was too cold, I've turned it down to 66 with fan on high it struggles and continues with the hot and cold fluctuations. I'd "live" with it, but I have MS and heat/hot weather really affects/aggravates it. In the "old" days I remember that on my higher mileage VW beetle, when it started running warm they put more freon in, but not sure if that's something that's done anymore or even if Mini uses it I really love my car (it's my 2nd Mini) and have put a significant amount of money in it (yes more than its worth)but want to keep it, I have a very annoying brother that keeps telling me that I need to get rid of it. I still think it's relatively young for its age. Thanks in advance for any advice-

As you mentioned. You can add/check the freon. it uses R134A. I buy my cans from Wall M. if the freon is low or keeps getting low, you need to find the leak.
