Rear brakes service light question

A service light on my dash recently came on showing the rear brakes indicator on my 2014 R55 S. I had the dealer perform a rear brake job on January of 2019 so I know the pads are fine as I have only done less than 5K miles since. What would trigger the service indicator? Does it go by elapsed mileage and simply it was not reset last January by the dealer, or is it triggered by the brake pad sensor?

Thanks in advance and keep motoring!

brake pad sensor. there is only one for the back and one for the front. the rear one is on the passenger side. you could also access the service menu and try to reset it, assuming they replaced the sensor.
