New guy getting ready to buy 09 S
Hey everyone, iv made a deal with a guy to buy his clubman S and was looking to see if anyone had some suggestions on what to look for when we go pick it up. Its an 09 with 135k 6sp car vin# WMWMM33549TP74288. Iv read a lot about the vacuum pump and probably one of the first things to change out with the oil. Any suggestions would be great. This will be our 2nd as we had a electric blue 05 6sp S brand new back in the day. This one will be an extra car around the house.

My opinion: I see "timing set" and "timing solenoid" on the there but I'm not sure if that includes the belt change or not. Perhaps the actual belt is included in the "timing Set"? You would think that they would have done the belt at the same time though...but that is just an assumption.
I'm going to let someone else on this forum chime in as I am definitely NOT a mechanic and don't want to provide misinformation
Cheers!

That what I was thinking. He says yes, the chain was done and have contact infor for the shop that did the work. I have about 4 dime size drops of oil in the garage underneath her so a little concerned and when you stop driving you can smell a little burnt oil so.

Search for common oil leaks and see if any oil stains from those locations.
I would try and get it sorted A.S.A.P even though it's not a major leak, as these engines really don't do well with low engine oil.
Also check the condition of the whole exhaust system as the exhaust clamps when loose can give you those symptoms.

I suppose the only way is to get the tolerance of the timing chain measured if you want to be sure of it.

OK, yes it is a chain, and timing kit indicates the chain and guides have been done, also the oil feed will be to the turbo so that would have been for an oil leak.
When the timing chain is done the front crankshaft seal should have been replaced BUT it is entirely possible that this was botched (there is no seal listed on the invoice), if the seal lip is even slightly distorted it will leak, this will show as oil on the front of the crankcase under the crankshaft pulley, sometimes flung about so could be on the subframe arm and exhaust. Plenty Youtube on how to do especially watch full timing chain replacement videos.
Sumps leak as do the valve cover gaskets (and this will have been removed to do the timing chain but no evidence it was replaced on invoice) so replace that and mind to use sealant on the corners, check youtube for how to.
VVT solenoid seals leak.
Timing tensioner can also leak if not torqued down. If you cannot source your leak then put some UV dye in and use a black light to trace it. Good luck and happy new car to you.

If there is oil consumption (usually oil leaking past piston rings) sometimes the exhaust will have an oily film. Oil leaks on the other hand wont show up in the exhaust.

When I had oil droplets on the driveway, I though it was leaking from the engine. Took it in for repairs and found it to be the exhaust clamps not clamping the exhaust properly and dripping a little.

Probably busted. I just got a 2010 and previous owner says hood latch is super easy to break. He said ya gotta be gentle and smooth when you pull on it.
