R55 Clubman Custom Spoiler on the Cheap

Anyone ever tried to mount a universal spoiler onto a clubman? I'm not a fan of the options that are out there, they look way too stock. I was thinking about taking two metal brackets and extending them out from the bolts that are near the 3rd brake light and then mounting a spoiler on those two brackets. The spoiler I purchased has sliding brackets which will be key to lining them up with where those 2 bolts are. I will post pics when it is complete to see if it can hold the weight of the spoiler and keep it sturdy while also looking good (that part I question the most). I did try and slide a thick metal bracket under the door and with a screw it fits fine and doors do not hit it when opening.

My goal: Just looks, and if I get aero benefits, even better, but my expectations are low.

Note: I'm aware the brackets won't line up since this version is for trunk mounting, but if I change up the brackets, I can get it to look right. I may also lower it a bit, since this spoiler sits quite high. Hopefully have pics for everyone soon. Let me know your thoughts or if you think I'm nuts for trying this.

Mockup (will probably need longer brackets)

How's the project going? I'm working on a rear spoiler as well - same goal, but with a different approach. My hope is to mount the spoiler on the tops of the barns doors - on the glass. The spoiler will be split in the middle and each side will have two supporting arms similar to supports for front splitters. I've deleted my rear wipers, so the supports won't interfere. The picture below shows the work in progress - I'm working with a local fabricator. Part of my aesthetic objective is to add the spoiler without changing the roof lines very much. I'm concerned about how the supports will look...and attaching everything to the glass. Everything will be painted black. Needless to say, I'm planning on keeping this car for awhile or I wouldn't be doing this. Comments welcome.

The hole in the center is for the washer fluid.

I got it mounted on and it was pretty flimsy feeling and because of the weight of the spoiler, it was pulling down the plastic not letting the barn doors open freely. Instead, I am going to look for super low spoiler brackets and see about a roof install. Any concerns with water entering the headliner with that approach? I would assume so.

Also, love your idea! I would just be careful mounting only to the glass though, or am I misunderstanding this and you're just going to use the plastic above to hold it up? One question I have though is, if you deleted your wipers, why do you need the washer fluid gap? :D

Have not mounted the spoiler yet for the Mini, but I put together a mockup bracket. What do you guys think? Too high? Need to lower it still? I'm on the fence.

Interesting... is it wider than the fenders?

i think you could pull it off if you add the JCW aero body kit and a Challenge style front splitter. Car would need to be lowered, too.

It's a 53 inch spoiler. I might see about cutting it down to 45-46 inches to better match the car. I also going to see if I can get a little shorter mounting hardware for it to lower it a little. I'll report back when done.

I think it’s fine at that height, but the width might be a little much. Make sure the angle isn’t too high, and you might actually feel it stabilize the car at higher speeds.

I like it, definitely add a splitter up front to go with it.

Going to hold on this project until I can get KW coilovers on it. If I am not satisfied with the look at that point, I'll keep considering adding a spoiler. I'm not sold on the look and just can't bring myself to drill holes in the roof without being sure I want to put it on.
