Sat/Nav system, CID module failing to boot up, speaker popping noises
The satellite navigation system has been failing to boot up properly upon starting the car in our 2008 Mini Cooper clubman. When turning on the engine, the mini logo appears on the satellite navigation display, but then the sat/nav system shuts back down and then boots back up, repeatedly, while it is making a scanning noise of the CD and DVD players and the speakers are making popping noises. The mechanic said the central info display module which controls the satellite navigation system is failing, based on a scan he did.
The car drives fine and otherwise everything else seems OK, it is just hugely distracting to try to drive while the satellite navigation system keeps rebooting. Also, because the system can’t boot up all the way, after turning off the car it continues to try to boot the sat/nav system which is draining on battery.
Right before this happened, it snowed here and the car sat under a foot of snow for about a week. It’s possible that moisture got into the interior due to the sunroof, and that moisture is impacting the central info display module. Although we didn’t notice any moisture in the car.
Has anyone experienced something similar with their satellite navigation system, and have any suggestions? Replacing the central info display module is hugely expensive and we would rather see if there’s anything else that can be done first. We are planning to put the car in our shop with some dri-z-air in case that helps.
