Homelink mirror compatibility?

Can I install the homelink mirror into my R55 Clubman S 2011 without major surgery. I hate not having an integrated garage door opener in my car. They're relatively available on ebay, just need to know if there's a spot to plug them in.

thx

correction, it is only plug and play if you already have the auto-dim mirror. If you have the regular, manual dim mirror it is not as simple. There are other threads about what is needed but basically there are two options.

1. Obtain the proper wiring and route from the mirror to the passenger kick-panel and pin into the wiring harness.

2. Jumper a couple pins in the connector for the mirror to provide power to the homelink circuit.

Well, apparently I have teh manual mirror. There is a **** on the bottom of it that adjusts the dimming angle

now I've got to figure out if I want to go through the trouble to do the wiring hack.

Homelink mirror swap

We I just did the manual mirror swap to the homelink mirror without doing any hack wiring. It’s a plug and play for me.

step one twist off the manual mirror
step two unplug the wire harness
steo three plug the wire harness back to the homelink mirror
step four reinstall the homelink mirror

prigram the garage opener per the YouTube video that in online

Done

Here is a good thread on this topic: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post3360627

You may have gotten lucky and be pre-wired but that is not the case for everyone. I retro-fitted this mirror in my 2011 R55 with a manual mirror and I had to jumper the pins to make the homelink functional.

I have the same mini
2011 Mini Cooper Clubman R55 automatic
You just have to be patience in programming your homelink. Took me about 5 time to get it to work. The key part of the programming is the learn mode button on the garage opener. Once you push that button you have about 30 second to push your homelink mirror button . Took me about 5 time for it to accept the rolling code.

i could put a quick short video once I get a chance

It has nothing to do with patience in programming the Homelink. My car did not have the power wires for the Homelink portion of the mirror in the harness. Simply plugging in the mirror will not work in that case as the Homelink circuits have no power. In order to make it functional you have to either run new wires from the fusebox or jumper a couple pins in the harness to the mirror.

Again, you may have gotten lucky and either had pre-wiring present or had an autodim mirror previously that was replaced with a manual dim at some point. The rest of us have learned that the car is not necessarily pre-wired for this from the factory unless you already have auto-dim.

How do you know that your wire harness is "right" or if it has to be hacked to make this work?

(aside from plugging in the mirror, which I don't have yet!)

If you have the manual dim mirror (and the car came that way from the factory), you do not have the required wiring. I do not know why the other poster was able to plug and play but the consensus on this forum is that the Homelink mirror is only plug and play on cars that already have auto dim mirrors. A way to be 100% certain is to remove your mirror and count how many wires are in the connector. Refer to the thread I linked above for wire counts and positions.
