I apologize in advance for creating a new thread about a subject that has probably been covered somewhere in the forum. I searched for a while but havent had any luck. I am new to Minis and have purchased a used 2010 r55. The car sat for a while because the motor was shot. With a $5000 budget, another engine was purchased and installed. Now begins the repair of other things to bring the car back to 100%. One issue is the radator fan not working on low speed so a replacement is in order. The repair costs for Minis seem extreme but I guess everything about BMW is. We have budgeted $2000 to replace the radiator fan and am wondering if that is sufficient. I have watched videos on the subject and the complexity involved is incredible. I replaced my Honda's radiator and fan myself for about $250. Maybe that isn't a valid comparison but is my most recent repair experience. Thoughts?

 

Are you paying BMW to do the replacement? The fan with speed resistor can be purchased for about $63 on ebay.

 

The cost of the fan assembly is not an issue as I have found several sources for it besides BMW. As for the installation, I will avoid the dealership if possible. I have found it to be better to have more than enough funding to pay for something than not enough. We came in under our budget for the engine swap which was not done at the dealer. We used the remainder to put new brakes on the car. I was hoping that someone had already been through this repair and could share their installation costs as a comparison.
