2010 Clubman S thoughts?
Found a 2010 Mini Cooper S Clubman Turbo for $2999. It needs a timing chain. It looks good overall. Do you guys think its worth it?

check this thread out, zrickety has an other good thread on his N14. The n14 is the one the everyone will tell you to run far away from it, engine that is in that mini and I too have it. I have 148568 on the odu as of yesterday but I’m lucky and have one that has been well maintained. I’m not stage 2 tuned yet but I treat her as if she was and I have no issues other than 1qt of oil burn every 1500-2000 miles, I have found it to be a bit lower during summer time due to running ac all the time.

I too bought a 2010 Mini Clubman S with a timing chain issue. Unfortunately for me, things didn't work out as planned. The timing chain at first appeared in tact, as if just the tensioner broke off. Learned through an indy shop with a Mini Mastertech that a chain link had broken off and damaged the cylinder head. That came off, was machined, and two valves were replaced. Engine reassembled, then crunching heard when hand cranking. Found additional pieces of plastic in the oil pan, and during that inspection, found the oil pump chain also needed replacement. Timing chain repair taken down again for oil chain pump repair, then put everything together. Car sputtering. Found that HPFP was also bad, needed replacement. That last bit was the fault of the prior owner, as he installed an Ebay HPFP once the timing chain failed, hoping that would fix the problem. It didn't.
All tolled, I'm in for $6900, not including the cost of the car, with still the following to address:
- CEL on - thought is was the DTML/leak detection pump. It wasn't. Still can't figure this one out.
- gear shift interlock - needs new gearshift assembly, car can shift without foot on the brake
few other odds and ends.
I guess the net of all this is, hope for the upside, plan for the downside. If you love the cars and love tinkering, they are great fun. I invested more than the value of the car, but the engine is super strong and reliable now (I hope).
