How hot is my R56 running?
Hi everyone, I have been driving my MCS for a little over than a week now and I keep wondering how hot my engine temp is? Is there a way to get a reading? Can there be a way to find out the temperature?
Please let me know.
Also I wanted to add the unlike my Volvo S40 this car does not rev up for a minute or so at initial start up. Why is that? I thought the Volvo does it to warm up a bit.
Weigh in guys.

There is an ODBII connector on the MINI that can be used to read the actual temperature sensors. You can read engine coolant temperature, and a number of other parameters... see the link below. You need a compatible PDA (palm or ppc) an adapter cable that is ODBII to the device and some software. I use this... http://www.auterraweb.com/scantoolsoftware.html

Yeah I have been on that neck of the woods, "Swedespeed" land.
By the way I did the same I traded in my s40 2.4i for the new MCS. It went somewhat like this.
I walked in the show room thinking of the old days when I drove a mini. The sales man that sold me the 04 mini three years ago jumped of his chair and cam running towards me. He proceeded to smile like child and ask me if I had test driven the new 07. He said that it was way way better. I test drove it and in two hours walked away with my "Little Rocket". I love it.
By the way thank you all for trying my initial question. Still hopping to hear someone say that they discovered a hidden menu where that info could be seen.
Ciao

Not sure why there is no "high idle" at start up, maybe someone else will chime in.

To read the actual coolant temp in real time, you can use one of these...

I don't have an R56, but according to the R56 owner's manual, the engine temperature light *is* a two-colour light. Of course, the owner's manual doesn't give the specific temperatures associated with the colours - only that yellow is "too hot" and red is "overheating".

Use the spiffy trip odometer menu described in the following link.
Once you select 7.0 actual coolant temp. you can start
the car and drive around and the coolant temp will display until
you turn off the ignition.

On pg 44 the manual just mentions that the warning light will come on. But on pg 119 it indicates that it will light up in yellow ("continue driving at more moderate speed so that the engine can cool down"), and red ("bring the car to a stop, switch the engine off and allow it to cool down. Do not open the bonnet otherwise there would be a risk of injury by scalding").
Thank you
